Red letter day in Paris as titillating cabaret The Moulin Rouge celebrates 125 years

The Moulin Rouge, the Parisian cabaret beloved by Toulouse-Lautrec, is celebrating its 125th anniversary.

To mark the milestone the club is to recreate some of the burlesque shows from the early years.

Not everyone is celebratory mood in Pigalle.

Two members of the Femen group appeared bare breasted on the roof of the theatre with slogans reading “not for sale” daubed on their chests.

The movement issued a statement saying red light districts “must no longer be the scene of odious entertainment in which women continue to be placed in submission and exploited.”

Despite the protests Jacques Offenbach’s ‘Infernal Galop’ continues to bring the house down nightly.
