Despite radical technological advancements in the medical field, there are certain times when doctors get an unexpected surprise on the operating table.

Recently, a teenage girl from Kyrgyzstan was rushed to the hospital. The problem was an absolutely massive hairball in her stomach.

The clump of hair was blocking the 18-year-old’s digestive system leaving her unable to eat food or even drink water.

The hairball, which weighed 9 pounds, formed from the habit of consuming pieces of her hair along with wool from the carpet in her home.

The girl's parents transported her to the hospital at the right time, as doctors say she would have likely passed away from malnourishment or dehydration. Doctors were forced to perform an emergency operation.

The senior professor of surgery remarked “Her stomach was so badly swollen from hair and bits of wool from the carpet that it literally just oozed out soon as the wall of the stomach was cut.”
The operation was a success and now the girl is recovering in the hospital. She has vowed to no longer chew her hair.

The lead surgeon said that he’s studied 5 decades worth of medical history and has not found a hairball comparable in size to this one.
