The Menger Bar and Hotel are still open after 155 years of operation in San Antonio-just across the alley from the Alamo on Alamo Plaza. The Menger Bar was frequently mentioned in O'Henry's writings and was a favorite hangout of Teddy Roosevelt. He recruited the Rough Riders there with a drink in one hand and a pen in the other.
