Oil Well was composed by Ferdinand "Jelly Roll" Morton and recorded for The victor Talking Machine Co at their 46th Street Labs in New York June 2, 1930. The recording was released on Victor's 10 inch black and gold label 23321A and on Bluebird 2361-2-rb.
Members of the Red Hot Peppers for this session were Morton, leader & piano; Ward Pinkett, Trumpet; Lee L Blair, Banjo; Crazy Cole, Drums; Geechie Fields, Trombone; Walter Thomas, Alto Sax; Joe Thomas, Tenor Sax & Clarinet; Billy Taylor, Tuba.
