Honda and Nissan issue new airbag recall

Japanese car giants Honda and Nissan have added almost three million vehicles to a recall they made last year over a fault in passenger airbags.

The affected cars reportedly have a defect that can cause the airbag to deploy abnormally and potentially explode during a crash.

Honda said it was recalling just over 2 million vehicles globally while Nissan announced nearly 800,000 of its cars were being called back.

The airbag defect, which has also forced Toyota, Ford and Chrysler to issue recalls, were supplied by Takata Corp.
