Russia's Artem Silchenko won the opening round of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series in La Rochelle, France on Saturday.

Blake Aldridge from the UK finished in third position, after the judges awarded him 117.6 points for his dive with a difficulty degree of 5.6.

Current champion Gary Hunt, also from the UK, finished in second after scoring 144.9 following his well-executed dive which included four front somersaults and
one-and-a-half twists. But it was Artem Silchenko from Russia who came away from La Rochelle victorious.

The watching spectators were treated to an amazing display from Silchenko as he pulled off a dive that involved a back armstand, two-and-a-half somersaults and
two-and-a-half twists.

The judges awarded Silchenko with 149.5 points, which was enough to secure first place.
