The Mary Kay Foundation(SM) Gives Emergency Grant to Dallas Area Women’s Shelter Facing Financial Crisis

Hope’s Door, a domestic violence shelter known for offering a helping hand is now on the receiving end after a devastating plumbing leak forced the Plano, Texas center to close its doors to new clients. With a $25,000 repair bill looming, the shelter is already currently at capacity and began sending women and children elsewhere. Knowing how difficult it is for families seeking shelter and safety from domestic violence, The Mary Kay FoundationSM is providing today a $25,000 emergency grant to the shelter located near the iconic beauty company’s global headquarters.
“When we heard about a domestic violence shelter in our area closing its doors to women and children due to the costs associated with repairing a major plumbing leak, we knew we wanted to step in and give back to our local community,” said Anne Crews, Vice President of Government Relations for Mary Kay Inc. and a board member for The Mary Kay FoundationSM. “The fact that Hope’s Door is currently at capacity with more clients calling each and every day, shows that there is a real need in our own backyard. We hope that by providing this emergency grant, it will give the shelter the option to keep its doors open and all beds available to those who so desperately need help.”
Since the Foundation’s inception in 1996, it has awarded $34 million to shelters and programs addressing domestic violence prevention including two grants to Hope’s Door. In 2007 and again in 2012, the Foundation gave a $20,000 grant to the Collin County shelter, making today a total of $65,000 in grants to Hope’s Door.
