This song is called Kim Gordon. I wrote it during a depressed winter (for me that’s every winter) when I was living in a small town, writing a ton of music but lacking anywhere to really share it. I wrote more than a whole album and now I'm finally ready to put it out there
If I didn't name it that, maybe I would've named it Pulling For You, which isn't as cool. Also, Kim Gordon's music has sometimes felt like a supportive friend, turning to music she's made and artists she's mentored when I needed the kind of emotional support no one I knew could give: understanding
1. The song is about the way we try to help depressed friends and family get through suicidal thoughts but don't always do a great job because it's hard to know what to say. And it's about being the suicidal person (note: I'm NOT suicidal, at all) and having other people talk to you. And the things they say aren't always super helpful. And then when the shoe is on the other foot, you only know how to say what has been said to you. And it's about the way we sometimes act as support for people when we need support, but I didn't always know I needed support and I didn't always know how to give it, especially when I needed it and didn't know it. You know?
