00:00So we've gone over the top 10 best movies of the year so far so now it's
00:07time for the tea with the worst movies of the year so far. Obviously there are
00:13some movies that jumped right out from my list but I actually in Hollywood's
00:18defense at first had a hard time coming up with 10 but the last few weeks helped
00:23me fill out my list. I also included a streaming movie in here which makes
00:29sense because I have one streaming movie on my best list as well. Disney having a
00:36horrible year whoo and I mean Lilo and Stitch did very well at the box office so
00:41that's really propping them up there but it's been rough overall and they have
00:46three movies on my list two of them are at the top but Universal actually has four
00:53and I didn't forget about you Warner Brothers you might be doing a great job
00:57right now but when the year started whoo it was bad so you've got some movies on
01:02this list as well actually just one but yeah there's one here so 2025 has been a
01:09real roller coaster for all the studios it's rough it's rough out there it's rough
01:14out there for everybody actually before we get started I just want to take a
01:19moment to ask you to subscribe because that way you'll never miss a video I've got
01:24reviews coming up more movie reviews spoiler reviews box office reports every
01:29Sunday all kinds of goodies so all you got to do is click that button right below
01:35click it clicked it all right come on all right we're gonna take as we go to number
01:4510 you have a nice little moment here to click it mountain head what the heck is
01:51this that's okay a lot of people don't know what this is but it was a streaming
01:56movie from HBO that came out it aired like a month ago and it was really a bad
02:03situation you know for a hot minute everybody was pretty excited about it
02:07because it's from the creator of succession that's pretty exciting and this
02:11seems to be his wheelhouse and HBO was making a big deal about it they're like
02:16we're dropping it on a Saturday night so that I mean they I think they knew it was
02:21kind of bad because they ended up dropping a little earlier but the idea was is
02:24they were gonna drop it like an eight or nine on a Saturday and everybody would
02:28watch it at once and tweet about it on social media but it was awful that's what
02:33happened it was really bad like at the beginning it does have some interesting
02:39things to say about tech bros and the unchecked power that we're giving them and
02:44that in this case great power does not come with great responsibility but who
02:49wants to watch a movie about how we're all and doesn't offer any solution it's
02:54just like yeah we're going down that's not fun and then of course the movie
02:59wildly goes off the rails in the second half and I'd say it turns into a farce
03:04but it wasn't funny Steve Carell must be stockpiling money because he seems to be
03:09saying yes to everything that he's offered and sometimes it works out
03:13sometimes it does not but although I have to say in his defense who says no to
03:18the creator of succession coming off of succession I guess you read the script
03:22and then you go I don't know I wonder how much he got paid for it I'm sure a lot
03:28because he has the biggest star in it although I think he's minimizing his star
03:33power as he says yes to too many things but I am very happy to see as he goes
03:39down Corey Michael Smith potentially going up a lot of us are og fans from his
03:45Riddler days number nine 28 years later wait a minute didn't I give this movie a
03:54good review well let me explain my list well you know I got to fill the list and
03:59also I have a valid reason for putting some of these movies on here and that's
04:03that we're not just talking about definitely bad movies but movies that have
04:08well some people might be able to defend them they've really harmed the overall
04:13franchise or the people associated with them and this movie is a prime example 28
04:2028 years later had one of the best trailers ever it was winning freakin trailer
04:24awards but once again a marketing department has sent a movie up the river
04:29without a paddle advertising it is something that it is not leaving moviegoers
04:34angry and bored if 28 years a lot of you said you fell asleep during this movie if 28
04:42years later had been accurately advertised maybe it would have made as much money out
04:46of the gate but I don't think it would have people hating on it I mean I think
04:50we might be having a very different conversation if the advertising had been
04:54accurate but instead we were given a movie that looked like an amazing horror
04:58blockbuster but instead is actually a depressing indie filming indie an indie
05:03film shot on iPhones that looks like it was shot on iPhones who I mean you get used to
05:10it but the first the opening scene is definitely shot on an iPhone I don't
05:16care how many iPhones they stapled to a plank of wood it doesn't look good I
05:19mean that looks cool but the results aren't great I appreciate with Danny Boyle
05:24and Alex Garland are trying to do here and as I said in my review this is
05:29something that I think would be more at home in a museum than in a movie theater but
05:34there and but there's no denying no matter what the artistic credibility for the
05:37film might be that it was poised to come back in a major way with the mainstream
05:42everybody was running the first two movies on digital people are like gotta
05:46get ready for this banger and then it put everybody to sleep I mean the second
05:50movie will definitely come out because it was already filmed but will it even go
05:54to theaters and that third film also this is a plan to trilogy you know this is
05:59the problem with shooting things back-to-back you can't course correct if
06:02surprise people don't like the first half and then you're like oh my god the
06:06second half's already in the can and we can't do anything about these notes
06:10we'll see I mean it's designed to be a three-parter so the second movie
06:15doesn't end the story maybe they can tack on a proper ending with reshoots
06:20number eight Megan 2.0 and that's right I didn't even see this movie I gotta fill
06:28the list and I know some of you really liked this movie but you know what while I
06:33didn't see the film I did see its box office and for that reason alone it
06:37deserves a spot on this list one third of the opening weekend of the first film
06:43ouch mega ouch oh my goodness was Megan you know ready to level up to the summer
06:50movie season clearly not and also it was obviously a huge mistake to so drastically
06:56change the tone of the film going from a creepy doll horror movie to a tongue-in-cheek
07:01terminator meets pop star vibe and I'm sure it didn't help that over on Netflix
07:06they have a huge hit with k-pop demon hunters which I think is a much fresher
07:11and modern look at the current music world so you're gonna watch k-pop demon
07:18hunters over well maybe some of you watch both but it didn't go well for Megan and
07:23how did the doll effects get worse in the sequel isn't this stuff supposed to
07:27get better although Hollywood you know suppose shoulda woulda coulda with
07:31Hollywood and there you know didn't even try is more the way it sometimes goes
07:34with Hollywood bad news for director Gerard Johnstone and writer Akilah
07:40Cooper especially since the first movie really put them both on the map and now
07:44they faltered although Johnston already has signed a deal to direct the new
07:49monster high movie which is why I always tell you sign your deal for your
07:54next movie before it comes you know before the current one comes out you know
07:57some people might be like well shouldn't I hold off to maybe get more money or a
08:01better deal if the movies a big hit maybe it's not a big hit right you can
08:06always get a better deal if it's a big hit you'll get another deal just lock
08:10something in while you still can and people are assuming your movies gonna hit
08:13because you know I'm thinking it's gonna be hard for Akilah Cooper she'll still work
08:17she's very good she's very close with James Wan but this is definitely a
08:22setback for her unfortunately number seven Jurassic World Rebirth as one of you
08:28hilariously commented on my review for this movie this is a stream-a-saurus oh
08:33get it stream-a-saurus took me a minute but that's a great joke if only this movie
08:39was as well written as I said in my review of this film you are gonna have
08:44dinosaurs in your dinosaur movie right because there's hardly any dinos in this
08:49and even the monsters are barely on screen we all marveled at how Universal
08:54was racing this fast-tracking it to the multiplex like they turned this movie
08:58around in a year because Gareth Edwards only signed on to direct signed in
09:03February 2024 famous for his ability to make movies fast and cheap but remember
09:10that triangle when you make something fast and cheap that means you can't have
09:14the third corner which is quality oh Scar Jo is cursed and apparently so is
09:20Mahershala Ali although this is the big movie for the for the 4th of July weekend
09:26and a couple of Jurassic movies that have also been awful this one's really bad
09:30though but Dominion was pretty bad I think this is worse yeah I know it can't
09:34can't be worse than Dominion because that squandered the original trio coming
09:39back but you know I mean I don't know we'll see I mean there's a chance this
09:44movie still might make a lot of money and then I hope they get it they do a
09:47better job with the next one number six Lilo and stitch and yes I realized that
09:56this movie made almost a billion dollars on just a hundred million dollar budget is
10:02definitely getting a sequel they announced that it's getting a sequel but
10:06it's it deserves a spot on this list wake Disney up and hopefully fix the
10:11horrible mistakes with this movie huh I mean talk about a new creative low for
10:17Disney in my opinion I know somebody likes this movie but I think that they
10:21continue this is a prime example of them sucking their IP dry to cash in on the
10:26nostalgic craze not caring that they burn it all down in order to do so how talk
10:31about how about investing in your future Disney and they they're just taking us
10:35for granted you know but I mean we always come back one day we won't and you
10:43know every other movie Disney has had this year has not done well so you know but
10:48Lilo and stitch stitch looked really good and also you know I think that you know
10:52how you react to this movie depends on how long it's been since you've seen the
10:56original Lilo and stitch if you only remember it in broad strokes if you're
11:00just like that stitch sure is cute then I do think the movie holds up better I
11:05made the mistake of re-watching the original film literally the morning that of
11:10the same day I went to watch the remake and the comparison was unkind talk about a
11:17perfect example I said of the machine that Hollywood has become where instead of a
11:22balance between business and creative those scales are tipping in the business
11:26direction and it you know it's not good for the business for the for the industry
11:30that's a bad decision business wise I wish they would wake up and realize that as I
11:35said stitch looks great he's wonderfully realized and thankfully stitches creator
11:39Chris Sanders who who left Disney over creative differences he's like half fired
11:44half left they must have given him a lot of money and he returned to do the voice and
11:49he's been very nice at promoting the film as well but clearly you can tell that
11:53he was not at all consulted from a story and direction standpoint because again
11:57this live-action remake is vastly inferior to his original you know I think the
12:03reason it does well is because it did well is because stitch is so cute the
12:07actress who plays Lilo is adorable and it does have a couple of charming funny
12:11moments but oh my god like Disney really stepped in it when an attempt to
12:16modernize Nani and Lilo situation and give it a girl power twist oh my god some
12:22kind of help is the best as bad right they ended up ripping at not only the
12:27heart of their relationship but the heart of the entire movie let's hope that as
12:32they count their money Disney has also noticed that people are pretty upset
12:35about this you know Disney always says I made a lot they made a lot of money off of
12:39it it can't be that big of a problem and we're like we're telling you this is a
12:43problem I hope you know it right now it looks like they're gonna get away with
12:47it but I think only if they course correct for that sequel that they just
12:51greenlit number five black bag oh oh my gosh recently in my review for
12:58Jurassic World Rebirth some of you were surprised that I had a nerve to call
13:02David Cope a hack well here's more evidence he's got two movies on this list
13:08man in Hollywood if just a fraction of your work is good if even a teeny tiny
13:13fraction of it is good you'll keep getting hired because Hollywood for some
13:17reason the you know the studio and the producers feel that their movie that
13:21you're doing will be one of your good ones even if the odds are not in your in
13:25their favor you're like 80% of his work is crap they're like my believe will be in
13:30the 20 I think it's because he works so much with Steven Spielberg but I'm like it's
13:35it's real bad I mean do you also you could read these things once he turns
13:39them in and be like oh it's one of the bad ones I don't know what's going on over
13:42there and what a shame as this movie black bag has everything you would think you
13:47would want an amazing cast gorgeous sets ah Steven Soderbergh and Michael
13:54Fassbender and Fassie in some fascinating fashionable glasses I love his glasses they
14:01look a lot like my glasses but they look really good on him I'm like those are
14:05great those are really nice those glasses sold that movie but once we got in
14:09there it couldn't save it but you know also I have to say Steven Soderbergh even
14:14a plus these days he was going to retire and at this point I think a lot of us
14:19are wishing he would he hasn't had a successful movie since Magic Mike over a
14:24decade ago I appreciate his willingness to take risks like making Magic Mike a lot
14:29of people of his caliber wouldn't make that movie and the first one was good
14:32second one was not good and he's made some great movies you know back in the
14:37day and some of his more recent movies are watchable you can watch him but like
14:43he's really slowly slowly like a snail destroying his legacy black bag does have
14:50some interesting ideas too bad it's incredibly boring I know some of you
14:54like this movie but come on number four Mickey 17 that's how fast things can
15:03change in Hollywood because when this came out Warner Brothers was in panic mode in
15:08fact it was so bad that Zazie started interviewing blatantly openly interviewing
15:14replacements a replacement to head up his film division well Pam Pam Abdi and Mike
15:19DeLuca were still stuck giving presentations they were screaming at each other in their
15:23joint office and when the trades reported it they said ah come on we're
15:27from New Jersey we scream all the time but they were right to be in panic mode
15:31thankfully they really turned things around who Mickey 17 seems like a very
15:36long time ago but in fact it was just earlier this year you know I guess that's
15:41why they are optimistic in Hollywood you just gotta hold on until you can pivot pivot
15:46uh but talk about hurting your legacy for Bong Joon-ho this is his follow-up to
15:51Parasite his Oscar extravaganza he could barely hold all of his Oscars and he was
15:57making him kiss it was hilarious but look where he is now New York Times just named
16:02Parasite the best movie of the 21st century but way to prove you can't keep it up
16:07uh what a waste of capital just when you think a filmmaker is gonna turn a corner
16:13and level up you know like instead he slides back to where he was before and
16:19that's making snowpiercer too now I know some of you like snowpiercer I'll never
16:24forget it I went to see a snowpiercer screening and he was there he was a Q&A
16:29and he said ah sound of music sucks and I was like how dare you well I said it in my
16:34head but then in his defense I did go back and watch sound of music a couple
16:38years later and I was like you know he might be right this isn't aging that well
16:41but you know it still has really good elements I wouldn't dismiss it it's better
16:46than snowpiercer and Mickey 17 all right so anyway snowpiercer by the way also got a
16:51streaming series which was short-lived but it's wildly uneven as is Mickey 17 but
16:58thankfully for the cast of Mickey 17 this movie is not their fault and they still
17:02managed to do good work in it particularly Robert Pattinson you know who's you know
17:07strengthening his relationship with Warner Brothers and he continues to prove to be a
17:11very interesting and dynamic actor who's also surprisingly good at comedy you'd have
17:17to be to be in the toilet all right those made a lot of money all right so anyway I
17:22mean he wouldn't have a career if not for those I used to think he was following in
17:26Leonardo DiCaprio's footsteps but I think it's become quite clear as I've said a
17:30couple of times now that he's the new Johnny Depp thanks to his penchant for
17:34quirky roles and he's good in them this movie is only worth watching for his
17:39performance and Steven Yeun although Steven Yeun and a lot of flops man although I
17:43like his movies I like nope too but yeah this movie's not good another pretty good
17:49trailer and an idea wasted number three wolf man oh we got ourselves a trend here
17:56of directors wasting capital they have an amazing opportunity and they can't
18:00capitalize on it you know it's not always their fault Hollywood's a tough business
18:05sometimes an idiot producer or studio executive comes in and messes it all up
18:08but I don't know it's hard to find like even a glimmer of goodness in these things and
18:14so and also I think Bong Joon-ho had final cut yeah I don't really know in
18:19these cases if I think it's the director's fault what do you think uh all
18:24right so anyway uh as in after Insidious chapter 3 and the very
18:28underappreciated upgrade I'm glad I've turned some of you on to how good that
18:32movie was Lee Wannell got the invisible man and he was pretty good with it he did
18:37some interesting things with it on a shoestring budget but I didn't think we
18:40knew they were all gonna be like that or else I think we wouldn't have been so nice to
18:43the invisible man universal who's really trying to bring their monster verse back
18:48they're like we know we have an IP here and interestingly enough they've had the
18:52most success in their theme park division with this IP I hope they realize
18:56that but at first they decided to give it over to 1L giving him wolf man you
19:01know when you see the grandeur and romanticism of dark universe you can
19:06really see what's missing from these other current universal monster movies
19:10you're like ah everyone said it everyone said we like the the bigger one
19:17better this one was a camping trip where the dad slowly turns into a werewolf but
19:22we spend most of our time with the mom and the kid that's not only sad but also
19:26boring oh it was really bad and this isn't just a problem for 1L as Blumhouse has
19:32two movies on this list this and Megan with Hollywood starting to wonder if maybe the
19:36mega-horror producer is overextending himself it's tough you know it's tough
19:42you got to be careful looks like it's time for Universal to reboot its monster
19:47movies yet again take a look at dark universe people really like that number two
19:55captain America brave new world and this one I feel bad about I really like
20:01Anthony Mackie Sam Wilson I think he has so much potential as a really kind and
20:06empathetic leader for the for the Avengers but Marvel's doing him dirty I as I
20:14you know I feel bad also because I kind of liked this movie when I watched it you
20:17know I can see the flaws in retrospect but I had a good time but then I watched
20:23and remember Falcon and Winter Soldier which apparently a lot of people cannot say the
20:29same I mean people were when this movie came out people were and some pretty big
20:33people were like when did Sam Wilson become Captain America and I'm like I
20:37know I saw you you I know I know you saw him get that shield in Avengers Endgame
20:42and I don't know why everyone's playing dumb and then also Falcon and Winter
20:46Soldier had good ratings it was one of the we know Disney plus you know the Marvel
20:50you know now we all know it was a debacle but in those early days they were
20:54coming hot out of the gate but you know I guess it was four years ago so yes cap 4
21:01is the canary in the coal mine for Hollywood on two major lessons that I
21:05hope Hollywood is learning one when it comes to franchises trying to have their
21:10cake and eat it too you can't be on both streaming and movies because everybody
21:15just starts to grab it's too much content and everyone just either and they
21:20start skipping stuff and then they start saying we'll just wait for it on the
21:23streaming service it's you know this was I think one of the like major evidence
21:27that Disney Plus had really done real damage just like with Pixar to Marvel and
21:31then to you know partially because of COVID in the strikes but it's take it's
21:37taking way too long for a lot of projects to return for their next entries on
21:40streaming and in movies but four years was just too long although audiences
21:46didn't have a problem coming back four years later from from Wanda to Agatha
21:50although that didn't switch mediums that stayed streaming to streaming so maybe
21:54that helped poor Sam Wilson as I said he deserves better and what's with all the
21:59Red Hulk scenes being in the trailer how do you not capitalize on this yumminess but
22:05they didn't they made a huge mistake all right so then the worst movie of 2025 you
22:12know what it is say it with me Snow White Wow so so bad epically bad in fact so bad that we
22:25thought this might be the one to finally snap Disney out of this creatively
22:30bankrupt you know trend that they're on but then Lilo and Stitch did extremely well so
22:35that's not gonna that's not gonna happen all right so now I will say that the
22:41movie looks really pretty as I said when the trailers came out it looks like a
22:44Thomas this is such you know it's Snow White is a very interesting movie so it
22:50looks like a Thomas Kinkade painting brought to life and I do think that they
22:53did a good job updating Snow White's look you know her dress you know could they
22:57had to update from the 1930s and I think her dress is really beautiful the hair the hair
23:03hair not so much that was a big mistake and then of course the CGI dwarves thanks
23:08a lot Peter Dinklage as I said when I was covering this movie way to close the
23:13door behind you in Hollywood the weird extra group of seven humans what and Gal
23:19Gadot hitting a new low as an actress what a missed opportunity for a real
23:24actress and there were a lot of people they could have chosen to do something
23:28really exciting with this iconic role today also there's real
23:32concern about AI including in Hollywood and this Snow White movie seems like
23:37someone asked chat GPT to write a movie that has every single one of the Disney
23:43Studios current bad habits creatively and business-wise they're like all in one
23:48movie it's crazy plus Snow White has been part of Hollywood also learning that
23:52when it comes to the nostalgia craze you can't go too far back particularly to
23:57something that has not continued to be popular Snow White is the one that
24:01started at all we've been talking about that this is a big year for the ones
24:05that started at all Snow White Superman the Fantastic Four let's hope the other
24:09two go better than Snow White did although I think Fantastic Four is in a
24:14similar boat but Superman has continued to be popular so I think that separates it
24:19out of this pack but you know people for instance with the older Disney
24:23princesses to this day they still rewatch Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty but very
24:28few people go as far back as Snow White and when they do it's to appreciate the
24:33cutting-edge artistry of that film at the time which was not duplicated in this
24:40live-action remake except for the forest sequence sequence that was very
24:43interesting and if they had more if they had also kind of pushed the edge of the
24:47envelope creatively maybe I think that would have helped this film also this
24:52Disney princess movie ended up in the middle of the Israel versus Palestine
24:56debate now interestingly Gal Gadot has totally retreated from the pop culture
25:02scene after this film but Rachel Zegler refused to the Melissa Barrera or Susan
25:07Sarandon and she has you know been able to go forward not only to her own
25:13things to her own perseverance but also and perhaps because people saw what
25:18happened to Melissa Barrera and Susan Sarandon particularly Melissa Barrera
25:21Rachel Zegler's fans have backed her and also other big celebrities have helped
25:27her I think you know I think it's partially not only because they agree with
25:31her but also because she was the focus of a very aggressive smear campaign by the
25:37studio it's a little bit almost like what happened was Zack Snyder you know Melissa
25:42Barrera and Susan Sarandon were largely more targeted by agencies and so I don't
25:47think you know they had more of a business spin to it so it didn't have the
25:50same David and Goliath feel to it but yeah I think Disney going after Rachel
25:57Zegler in the press trying to pin this on her really activated a lot of people to
26:02back Zegler so we'll see you know Zegler has gone forward you know I think she's
26:09you know we'll see how this materializes but she is right now on the West End with
26:15Evita with talk of it coming to Broadway and so far you know she continues to be at
26:20the heart of both positive and negative discussion but the positive stuff is
26:26really really strong still and a lot of the celebrities who backed her against
26:30Disney came out to support her at her premiere for Evita so I think that might
26:34continue you know the movie might not have found a happy ending but it's Disney
26:39princess seems to have in real life I think you know her career is stronger
26:43than it's ever been in fact and I think in the entertainment space
26:46fascinatingly she is part of what is an overall kind of new movement that is you
26:53know it's just starting you know well you know it's starting to get real traction I
26:56guess you could say in the mainstream space and we'll see we'll see what happens
27:01you know I think it's still very early days in the mainstream space but make no
27:06mistake I think fascinatingly Rachel Zegler is the entertainment front line of
27:10that so we'll see but you know interesting so those are my top 10 worst
27:15movies of 2025 so far I'm very curious to hear your own lists down below and your
27:20thoughts on mine of course subscribe today and as always you can check out
