00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:07It is Amelia.
00:08I hope you are fine.
00:09House of the Dragons Season 2 Episode 4 is undoubtedly the show's biggest and most action-packed
00:15episode with a ton of material to break down.
00:18The HBO prequel series is based on the book Fire and Blood by George R. R. Martin, examining
00:24the peak of the Targaryen dynasty when the family ruled Westeros with dragon power.
00:29After the death of King Viserys I and his succession is in question, the realm falls
00:33into chaos as the blacks and greens split into factions representing who they believe
00:38to be the rightful heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen or Aegon to Targaryen.
00:42House of the Dragons Season 1's ending saw first blood drawn by Aemon Targaryen who killed
00:48Lusais Velaryon, beginning a bloody, violent cycle that's carried over into Season 2.
00:53In Episode 4, the TV series shows the first major battle of the Dance of the Dragons,
00:58the Battle of Rook's Rest, where the war officially lives up to its name.
01:02Criston Cole baits the blacks into sending out Rhaenys as their dragonrider to combat
01:07the greens' infantry forces, hoping to ambush her with the much larger dragon, Hagan, ridden
01:12by Prince Aemon Targaryen.
01:14King Aegon II wasn't part of Criston Cole and Aemon's plan to ambush the blacks at Rook's
01:19Rest but he arrives at the battle on his own initiative.
01:22Aegon writes Sunfyre, considered the most beautiful among the dragons in House of the
01:27Dragon for its vibrant golden scales, unfortunately for the king.
01:31He's torn apart fairly quickly by Rhaenys and Melies and Aemon's arrival only seals
01:36the deal as the younger prince betrays his older brother with dragonfire, sending him
01:41to the ground.
01:42The episode leaves Aegon's fate a mystery but it would be surprising if he was actually
01:47dead.
01:48In fire and blood, he's wounded heavily in the Battle of Rook's Rest but not killed.
01:52It would be an enormous deviation from the story if Aegon were to be killed off so early
01:57and not likely a choice the show would make.
01:59House of the Dragon has made many book changes but in terms of key events, it has consistently
02:04followed the blueprint laid out in George R. R. Martin's book.
02:08Like many of the brothers in House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, there's no love
02:12between Aemond and Aegon.
02:14Aemond considers his older brother to be a fool who's unworthy of the crown.
02:18While he's worked tirelessly, made sacrifices, and taken enormous risks to mould himself
02:24into a weapon for his faction.
02:26It's not dissimilar to the relationship between Daemon and Vysaes, though Daemon deeply admired
02:31his older brother.
02:32Aemond despises Aegon and he sees the Battle of Rook's Rest as an opportunity to kill his
02:37older brother and lay the blame on Rhaenys.
02:40Following the conflict, he approaches Aegon after his fall to seal the deal with his sword
02:45if he isn't already dead.
02:46If Aegon dies, Aemond would become king, as it's too late now for the greens to backtrack
02:51and give Rhaenyra the throne.
02:53At this moment, Aemond has everything to gain and nothing to lose from taking out his brother.
