00:00Welcome back everyone it is Amelia I hope you are fine.
00:10House of the Dragons Season 2, Episode 5 has a tone of fresh material to break down, exploring
00:16the aftermath of Rook's Rest.
00:17The Dance of the Dragons came fully into fruition in Episode 4, The Red Dragon and The Gold
00:23where the Blacks and Greens met in the minor Crownlands Castle, Rook's Rest.
00:27By the end of the bloody conflict, 900 men were killed and Prince Aemon Targaryen was
00:32the last Dragonrider standing or flying.
00:35Rhaenys Targaryen was killed in battle and King Aegon II was severely injured, giving
00:40both sides someone to grieve for.
00:42The House of the Dragon cast is relatively separate in their conflicts in Episode 5.
00:47Rhaenyra struggles in the absence of Daemon and now, in the absence of Rhaenys, she feels
00:52as if she is lost to of her most powerful allies.
00:55This causes her to look elsewhere for potential support.
00:58The Greens find themselves in a difficult situation as the Lord of the Seven Kingdoms
01:03has barely survived the battle.
01:05At Harrenhal, Daemon's story continues isolating him as he is referring to himself as King
01:11and struggling to make his own allies.
01:13Rhaenyra Targaryen finds a glimmer of hope in the episode's final scene.
01:18As her eldest son, Jaeserys Velaryon, comes up with an idea to replenish their forces,
01:23the Blacks may have lost one of their most experienced Dragonriders, but what they aren't
01:27short of is dragons.
01:29The Season 1 final established that there are riderless dragons on Dragonstone and Driftmark
01:34and Season 2 has seen Seasmoke flying around aimlessly.
01:38Jaes reminds his mother that they may be out of potential Targaryens, but there are others
01:43who come from the Valyrian bloodline.
01:45As shown by members of House Velaryon riding dragons, it's not a perk that comes specifically
01:50to Targaryens.
01:51In fact, it's not even 100% clear in George RR Martin's books whether one has to be Valyrian
01:58to ride a dragon, though the TV series seems to imply that the Targaryens believe that
02:02to be true.
02:03The Doom may have destroyed Valyria, but there are still many who carry Valyrian blood, including
02:08many of the new characters in House of the Dragons Season 2.
02:12Jaeserys and Rhaenyra intend to read through the dense volumes in Dragonstone's library
02:17in hopes of tracking their lineages to characters like Alyn, Ulf and Hugh.
02:21These men will be allowed to attempt to bond with the riderless dragons.
02:25There's also another man of Valyrian blood on Rhaenyra's small council in Lord Baltimore's
02:31Celtigar.
02:32There are both dragons and riders available to Rhaenyra's side, though allowing a stranger
02:36to tame a dragon is still a significant risk, as it will instantly make the rider one of
02:41the most powerful people in the Seven Kingdoms.
02:44Among the many dragons in House of the Dragon, there are plenty that are riderless or entirely
02:49wild.
02:50Dragons who have had riders before are easier to tame, making Vermitha and Silverwing among
02:55the biggest priorities for the blacks.
02:57Vermitha was seen in House of the Dragons Season 1 final as the dragon Daemon goes underground
03:03to sing to.
03:04Aside from Vhagar, Vermitha is the largest dragon alive during the dance, making him
03:08an incredible asset for either side to have.
03:11Silverwing is known for being more docile, but the She-Dragon is also quite massive.
