Transcript
00:00 Even though there are complaints,
00:02 Chairperson Prospero de Vera III insisted that his work will continue.
00:07 He will also focus on programs like free education.
00:13 Here is my special report.
00:15 In the face of some issues that are being raised by the Commission on Higher Education,
00:21 the moral of the Commission remains high.
00:23 That's what Chairperson Prospero de Vera III insisted
00:27 despite the complaints raised by the Chairperson last week.
00:31 Our work will continue.
00:33 That's what public service is.
00:34 If you're doing something,
00:37 you should continue it so that the clients of the government can help.
00:41 Three cases were filed against De Vera by Ombudsman
00:45 because the Chairperson did not comply with the tertiary education subsidy
00:49 of some student beneficiaries,
00:51 which was officially dismissed.
00:54 I am ready to answer this
00:56 because we have an answer.
00:58 The Commission is not doing anything wrong.
01:01 And I am ready to show the evidence
01:07 that the Commission is doing the right thing.
01:10 That's all.
01:11 I just wish there were less of this
01:14 so that we can concentrate on what we really need to do.
01:17 To clarify,
01:19 the so-called subsidy does not come directly from them.
01:22 Instead, it is given by the Chairperson to schools.
01:26 Because the children are closer to the school.
01:29 They can go there.
01:30 So they will get the tertiary education subsidy.
01:33 The Chairperson also refuted the issue of the increase of Chinese students
01:37 in the province of Cagayan.
01:39 But according to the Chairperson,
01:40 if it's true,
01:41 the institution should not be refuted here
01:44 especially since it is already owned by the Immigration Bureau.
01:47 Because the issue of student visa
01:50 is the Bureau of Immigration.
01:52 So if there is a security issue,
01:54 if there is an immigration violation,
01:56 the government agencies that have a mandate there,
02:01 they will be the ones to move.
02:02 We will just support them.
02:04 Even so,
02:05 the Chairperson insisted that it should be part of the hearing on the issue
02:10 to clarify their position and provide the necessary information.
02:14 In spite of these issues,
02:16 the Chairperson emphasized the strengthening of their programs
02:21 especially the Free Higher Education Program of the government.
02:25 De Vera insisted that the Chairperson should maintain the program
02:29 through the assurances that it will be funded.
02:32 This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured in his area.
02:36 The Chairperson also emphasized the existence of equity
02:39 or equality in providing free tertiary education.
02:43 Consciously, the regulations,
02:47 gradually and surely, will be included in the regulations.
02:51 That is what is really needed.
02:54 Graduates of public universities,
02:56 public schools,
02:58 those from poor families,
03:00 children of indigenous communities,
03:03 that is what we will focus on now
03:05 so that they will not be left behind.
03:06 On May 15, the National Higher Education Summit will be held by the CHED
03:11 which was led by President Marcos Jr.
03:13 Here, the Higher Educational Stakeholders are expected to meet
03:18 to discuss the successes
03:21 and the changes that should be made
03:23 to improve the Higher Education in the country.
03:26 Kenneth Paciente
03:28 for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
