This is about art, identity and culture. We are a group of artists (7) from Denmark who ask the question: From where - to where? The title Transit describes the condition modern people are in as borders open or change and national identities begin to vanish. We want people to make a video of their "house altar". WHY A HOUSE ALTAR? In Denmark a "house altar" is synonymous with a television set because a television set has become the central focal point in our daily lives. Instead of worshipping at a church altar, we have begun to worship at the television set every night. The television set plays a significant role in our lives because television offers programs which form the basis of the main topics of our daily discussions. We, in our group, believe that a "house altar" can be anything people adore whether it is children, cars, music, politics, religion, or sports. Thus, a "house altar" may be anything which strengthens or enhances our identity and culture. A "house altar" expresses our dreams, our aspirations, our origins or our destinies. Though for Danes, as for most other nationalities, television programs connect us to ourselves and to the world and thus transport us to far-flung corners of the earth. Not surprisingly, the television set is one of the most powerful technologies which acts as a "house altar" in so many of the world's living rooms.
