Chant The Carlings 1990
Kungshamn: Where the heck is that
Few people know. I had to look it up, you do that nowadays with Google maps, and yes I found it, some 130 km north of Goteborg, Sweden, and yes folks, Goteborg, that's where the Carling family lives.
Father Hans, together with mom Aina set up a jazz environment in their house. Each child with his or her own room and recordplayer to study jazz, each from their own point of view. They started the band in 1984, and here some 6 years later in 1990 they attack that famous Jelly Roll Morton classic: "The Chant". Jelly recorded this masterpiece already in the very early days of jazz in 1926.
With my own band I recorded it in 1977 and boy, do I remember how difficult a piece it was.
Then you see these youngsters with their incredibly well playing papa, just doing it. Talent and hard work!. Congratulations!
