This video is dedicated to answering some of the more common Lasik questions people have about the procedure. Lasik changed my life in a positive way by improving my stigmatism and eliminating my need for glasses or contact lenses.
I want to share some of what I learned from getting my lassie procedure done. Many people don't know that the week before you surgery you can't wear contact lenses. Other people are unaware that not everyone is a candidate for Lasik. Depending on the dryness of your eyes and other factors you might not be able to get Lasik.
So the first step is to find a doctor and find out if you are an actual candidate for Lasik. What they will do is dilate your pupils and run some minor tests on your eyes to determine the dryness and thickness of your corneas. These tests are standard and will help the Doctor arrive to a decision on if you are a Lasik candidate or not.
The actual day of the procedure you will want someone to drive with you so they can drive you home from the procedure. The entire process may only take an hour or two with only 15-30 minutes of actual time in surgery. In my experience I was done with the surgery in about 20 minutes. You are awake for the surgery and the Doctor will go over the details of your surgery depending on what Lasik option you choose.
Recovery time can vary depending on a host of factors. Everyone is different but in my particular case it took me about 3-5 days to be fully recovered but I was able to work 24 hours later. Consult with your Doctor about recovery expectations.
Ask about follow up appointments and if they are included in your procedure costs. Typically they will have you back in a week and a month after your surgery to test your eyes and make sure everything is good.
