One minute teaser for an upcoming documentary about the revival of Hawaii's aqua-culture: Fish ponds.

“Loko I’a” means “enclosing fish” - an ancient Polynesian system of raising fish in ocean ponds. Young technology-oriented Hawaiians struggle to revive this indigenous practice and work to create an economic opportunity for the native people that can save Hawaii from further touristic and military abuse and benefit the entire world.

The Hawaiian way of raising fish in ocean ponds connects wise use of the land as well as a basic understanding of the roles of human beings within intricate natural habitats. “Loko I’a Hou” offers a chance for future economy and ecology – worldwide. This system challenges the current widespread human habit of abusing and disrespecting nature and the Earth’s ecosystem. This must change, if the human race wants to survive a few more centuries – “Loko I’a Hou” is one path to ensure a new, healthier relationship between humans and planet Earth.

“Loko I’a” requires understanding and applying the collective knowledge of a few island experts about the ancestral secrets and mysticisms of how to ecologically connect the land with the water to get the fauna and flora in the ocean ponds to prosper aiming at - feeding humans. It all is based on a spiritual understanding of the interconnectedness of all things in nature and in the human world.
