In a society that stresses so hard the importance of staying busy, whether it be with excelling in school, or being a successful business man, its sometimes hard to remind myself of the simplicity of life. Just simply being without covering up the world with preconditioned labels and ideas. I often will become tangled in my own frustrations when dealing with school, but when I take a road trip I am able to step outside of my perceived life situation and realize the insanity of creating stress for myself. This video project was an attempt to convey my perspective of what leisure means and contrast it with someone else’s point of view. Providing a word with a universal definition is something we often struggle to do. The subjectivity of the word, “leisure,” is a concrete example of how differently people can formulate understandings of words. Leisure is something hard to truly define, for to do so, one must pick apart several aspects of our insane society. To me, leisure is the time that I can spend engaging in activites that surface a different state of mind. A state in which time is no longer recognized as something that ones needs to devote to any kind of obligation.
