It's remarkable how technology these days is affecting every facet of our world from micro to macro levels.

A great example is the conceptual design for Amsterdam Hermitage Bridge by bureau SLA and Arup Asterdam.

The bridge is meant to go over the Amstel river, connecting to Amsterdam's Hermitage museum.

The most fascinating aspect of the design is the scenario when a large vessel is approaching the bridge.

Through the use of an iPad, that iPad user can decide the curve with which that bridge will open for the crossing vessel. The computer will tweak the settings to ensure that technical and legal requirements are satisfied.

Once the vessel has passed, the settings can be changed to adjust the gradient for folks using the bridge.

The design team explains the mechanism behind this interactivity.

It's exciting to consider the possibility of such dynamism in our urban spaces. What's your idea of a dream bridge?
