Residents in the village of Temesi in Bali were tired of living with trash. So with the help of a Swiss waste management expert, they built a garbage sorting plant. Now, the trash is gone. Every day, more than 100 people in the village turn 60 tons of waste into plant soil. Usually, large trash dumps ferment and emit greenhouse gases. But in Temesi, workers blow oxygen into the garbage and turn it using small diggers. That cuts down the release of harmful gases. Temesi has become a model for the entire island.
