A stadium roof in the US has collapsed under the weight of snow following a winter storm.

The Minnesota Metrodome proved no match for the blizzard that pummeled the American midwest on Sunday.

Snow covered the playing field inside the American professional football stadium after the inflatable roof ripped in spots and fell through.

There were no injuries, but the roof collapse prompted the National Football League to reschedule a game between the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.

A blizzard warning is in effect for Chicago and parts of northern Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan and North and South Dakota.
