US President Barack Obama has arrived in India on the first leg of an Asian tour aimed at increasing US exports to the region.

The US leader payed his respects to the victims of the 2008 Mumbai attacks while in India's financial centre.

Mr Obama will also meet local business leaders and American executives and US officials say they expect major contracts to be announced.

The President arrived in Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by the first lady, Michelle Obama for a three day state visit to India.

Mumbai is under an unprecedented security ring for the maiden visit with both Indian and American security agencies are at high alert.

Mr Obama's 10-day tour also takes in Indonesia, South Korea and Japan.
