Former X Factor contestant Chico Slimani has joined the chorus of criticism against the reality show's decision to use an autotune device.

He said he was surprised that voices were given the pitch-enhancing treatment. "I thought the more horrible they sound, the better", he said.

There has been huge public outrage at the talent show's post-production effects, and Chico agreed that the public should know that what they are watching is an honest representation of the performance.

He said, "I don't think they should be using anything that distorts reality".

The X Factor is still an incredibly popular series, with the first episode attracting an audience of over 11 million viewers.
