Real Madrid have signed experienced Portugal defender Ricardo Carvalho from Chelsea on a two-year contract.
The 32-year-old underwent medical tests earlier in the day before signing his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid.
"I'm here to help. Throughout my career I have played and things have gone well. I hope I find it's the same here and I will help to the team get their objectives. It's just one more step," said Carvalho at a press conference after the signing.
Carvalho will rejoin his former Chelsea boss and compatriot Jose Mourinho, who replaced Manuel Pellegrini as Real coach at the end of last season after leading Inter Milan to a treble of Champions League and Italian league and cup.
"He is a very demanding coach and looks for details. He knows how to win and therefore is important for the club. He likes to win and we know he wants to win," said Carvalho.
Looking ahead to playing in La Liga, Carvalho said he expected to adapt very quickly to Spanish football: "The pace here is different. The football is different to England. The football in England is faster, it's more direct, here it's more thoughtful."
The Spanish club did not disclose financial details of the deal but local media reported the fee was eight million euros.
Also speaking at the press conference was General Manager Jorge Valdano who said that Real were still active in the transfer market.
Carvalho is Real's fifth addition to the squad since the end of the last campaign following the purchase of winger Angel Di Maria and midfielders Pedro Leon, Sergio Canales and Sami Khedira
