Manchester United have held a public training session at Old Trafford as they prepared to face Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday.

The Shield is traditionally played between the champions of the Premiership and the champions of the FA Cup. But as Chelsea won the double last season, United enter as the second placed team in the league.

The training session was an opportunity for fans to see their new players for the first time in young Mexican striker Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling.

Manager Alex Ferguson has faced pressure to emulate rivals Manchester City and spend more on new talent.

But the Scottish manager has repeatedly said he is happy with his current squad.
