After watching several videos claiming that BP is broadcasting fake footage (which in this case these video clips were bogus) Out of curiosity I went to check out the feeds myself. Clicking on the link on the front page of CNN.com brought up a pop up window of the feed. There are several items that immediately caught my attention. Ive had professional training with Flash action scripts, and since then, for the most part, have kept up with new developments and changes with this technology. Flash technology is being used right now to view this video. Its a very effective way to create low sized high quality videos that would otherwise hog massive amounts of a sites bandwidth. As you can see in this video I managed to pull up two instances of the "live Feed" which after they refreshed still displayed two different time code stamps. This prompted me to dig deeper by reviewing the source code. It clearly show JavaScript that are associated with time date stamps . This is not needed if you are looking at a broadcast feed. There is no date on this screen...or is there? Then looking at how the numbers rotate out also added to my concerns. The numbers we see here are transitioning to the next with a blur or fade effect that looks very similar to, if not exactly the same as the text effects offered in the flash program. Normal time coding numbers just cut and appear they don't fade or blur in and out because they are a DIGITAL reference number on top of a given feed burnt on the footage.
