Create a Family Recipe for Safe Grilling This Season

(May 21, 2010) — For busy families who want to reconnect over meals, grilling season presents a welcome opportunity to change the menu — and the venue. Meanwhile, dinner on the deck provides more than just a reason to eat together. The great outdoors can supply the perfect setting to teach kids and other family members about meal preparation and grilling safety. This grilling season, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is offering families safety information, food preparation tips, and recipes for creating a fun and safe outdoor meal for the whole family. The organization has teamed up with award-winning chef, restaurateur, and My New Orleans: The Cookbook author John Besh to share his tips for creating an outdoor meal that all members of the family will love to prepare and eat. “Sharing a meal is sharing an experience and one of the most meaningful ways I spend time with my wife and four boys,” said Besh. “I take pride in passing down trade secrets and family recipes, but it’s also very important for me to teach safety while cooking in the kitchen or in the backyard. I want to ensure that my children know how to use a grill to create delicious flavors and how to do so safely.”
