Sandstorms and Snowstorms Blanket Northern China

Parts of northern China have been hit by intense weather. Severe sandstorms and snow have blanketed the region, and to make things worse... there are also reports of fierce fires being driven by strong winds.

Sandstorms blasted regions in northern China on Sunday, leaving a blanket of dust over areas in the Xinjiang region as well as Inner Mongolia and Jilin Province.

Dust filled skies lowered visibility to just six and a half feet and a cold front sweeping northern China is likely to bring strong winds and low temperatures for the next two days.

Chinese media says strong winds caused fires to spread rapidly, killing three people and seriously injuring one.

The winds blowing over central and eastern Inner Mongolia could reach speeds of around 30 miles per hour.

Spring snows have added to farming troubles in Inner Mongolia, which saw its worst winter in 50 years.

Those in the affected regions have been warned to take precautions as the severe weather approaches.
