00:01What an atmosphere in Munich, the 41st Iberian Derby

00:04it puts Spain and Portugal together in a major final for the very first time

00:08two nations that have won this competition before

00:10in addition to the European Championship titles that both have claimed in the last decade

00:16the swashbuckling young stars of Luis de la Fuente

00:20the workman like Portuguese under Roberto Martinez

00:23these are the two teams, two changes for Portugal from the semi-final win over the Germans

00:28as expected Pettinas back in midfield looking for a second trophy in eight days at the Allianz Arena

00:33and Francisco Conceição rewarded for his game-defining cameo from the bench in the last four

00:38as he joins Bruno Fernandes and Pedro Neto in supporting Cristiano Ronaldo in attack

00:44Joao Neves continues to serve as a makeshift right back

00:47despite the impressive contribution of Nelson Semedo later on Wednesday night

00:55well there may be the absence of the hosts in this year's final

01:00but it hasn't stopped the Allianz Arena from pretty much filling in the hour before kick-off

01:05there's our match referee Sandro Xera, a 37 year old Swiss official

01:10he was the man in the middle the last time Spain lost a competitive fixture

01:14all the way back in March 2023 against Scotland

01:18that was Luis de la Fuente's second game in charge

01:23Spain won it two years ago, finished runners up to the French in 2021

01:26Portugal the inaugural winner six years ago now

01:29and the Portuguese taking on a country they have not beaten in the last six games

01:34Spain haven't lost any of the last five competitive meetings

01:37Portugal's last win, Portugal maybe considering a shorter option with the corner kick

01:43but that's what they are doing

01:45that's a side of Bruno Fernandes, bench one to the far post

01:47there was a man down and it's Neves, he drove it into the ground

01:51there was no whistle for a foul

01:56first real chance of the night

01:59well Fabian Ruiz hits the ground

02:02it's a little bit of a wrestling match between himself and Bernardo Silva

02:10looking to release Nico Williams in behind João Neves

02:13took it well

02:14barely had to break stride and into the area he goes

02:18and he lays it back to Pedri

02:21he went for precision and placement instead of power

02:28that's great play from the Spanish

02:29not sure what the party is, back line is doing

02:34Williams has always got the pace to get in behind

02:36White are standing on the half way line

02:38that ball over the top is an easy one to hit

02:41and he pulls it back to Pedri

02:53well Saval it's all congested in there at the moment

02:56swept wide though by Zubimendi for Nico Williams

03:00really good ball at the end

03:03decoy run for Cucurama

03:04Nico Williams just didn't get it to dip in time

03:10this really looks where the rewards are

03:12from a Spanish point of view on the left wing

03:15good ball out to

03:16Nico Williams one on one with Neves

03:19it's a yard or so wide

03:21or over the crossbar

03:23you can see exactly what he's trying to do

03:33any game of head unity

03:34and pressing through the back

03:35and receiving a yellow card for it is Gonsalo in Azure

03:42and I think it's a fair one

03:45it's clever play from

03:47firstly Miguel I sound then Noy Arceval

03:49breaking forward is Uwamendi

03:52and Nel players up against Duda Mendes

03:54the cross is a good one and it's not clear yet and it's in the back of the portuguese net

04:00tucked home by martin zilbermendy calamitous moments for portugal in defense

04:07and zilbermendy didn't need to be asked twice his second international goal

04:12and spain lead the nation's league final

04:17it's a brilliant mill from the spanish anybody ask him why that man or it's the ball is in the

04:24team you're about to see why his link of pay is exceptional brings so many players into the game

04:34doesn't score a whole heap of goals you see his involvement in this one little flick

04:41gets zilbermendy on his bike and opens up the whole pitch for the spanish and it's a question of can

04:48they make the right decision zilbermendy gives it out to iluminium mal shifts it onto his left foot

04:55and just hangs it into that six yard box the portuguese don't cover themselves in glory with

05:01the defendant ruben diaz just hooks it into a horrible area neves can't react it's a very easy

05:10finish for zilbermendy in the end take nothing away from the portuguese center half does really well

05:17comes across and deals with the danger

05:20we saw that south there spainer completed two and a half times more passes than the portuguese

05:26ronaldo uses netto we haven't seen really anything in portugal

05:32offensively as yet nudo mendes might look to change that onto his left but tried to go it

05:36oh that's a brilliant equalizer

05:40an absolute belter from nudo mendes

05:47at the scene where he claimed his champions league winner's medal eight days ago

05:53nudo mendes drives portugal level in the nation's league final what a way to score your first ever

06:00goal for your country it's a brilliant strike from nudo mendes we spoke about he's attacking talents

06:08beforehand maybe ronaldo might have just creeped off side and yeah having a look at that but once this

06:17ball comes out i was wondering what is ronaldo doing on the left wing he needs to be in the

06:21box as a

06:22target man pedro netto kicks out mendes drives into the box only wanting in his mind to try and get

06:29the strike off this will be a brilliant view it's a daisy card into the far corner brilliant finish

06:39and the goal stands we said there'd be goals with two inside half an hour

06:45you see the reaction of ronaldo he's ecstatic and that young man

06:52it's quickly becoming one of the best left backs in the world

06:56defensively one v one solid going forward

07:00yamal from fabian royce and now yamal again looking to play in williams oh he's got an opportunity to

07:09turn it in and it ran away from him just about doing enough this time was diogo costa

07:16a rare lapse in concentration from him

07:20ronaldo back inside it goes to netto and netto driving clear and that's going to be a dunking for fabian

07:32rois

07:33now netto only ronaldo in the area

07:38goes outside miguesa digs out the cross

07:46i like the idea pedro netto

07:51you can hear one of the portuguese players just asking the referee how many fouls is he allowed

07:57do you feel if you can get kukurea on the yellow

08:01really does wrap him up as i say he's so aggressive trying to win the ball back it takes a

08:06lot of that

08:06away from him he's really letting the game flow the swiss referee pedri now driving forward

08:11slips one towards right that's a gorgeous finish

08:19so up to the man who pops up in the right place at the right time

08:23for this spanish side

08:36excellent center forward play

08:41timing of the movement dig the finish out it's exceptional

08:48but portugal clearing why there wasn't a free kick given for a an alleged foul earlier in the move

08:55there not so sure there's too much in that there is contact it is a contact sport

09:02you see pedri timing at the pass the weight of the passing behind is brilliant

09:09wants a ritz about times the run it's all about the finish can he find the finish

09:15he thinks it takes it so early

09:20excellent center forward play

09:23he's justified his inclusion in this spanish team

09:27big hand to play in both goals

09:30center forward in the world if your timing is like that there was an awareness that the

09:35goalkeeper diogo casa would be rushing out to meet him hence the death little flick beyond him

09:40what a first half that was portugal certainly played their part in it

09:44half time in munich it is portugal one spain two in the international ranks also led spain to the

09:51silver medal of the tokyo olympics in 2021 luis talafrante who was 64 in a couple of days time

09:59it was made look lesser of a ball by the miscontrol of tedry around the corner for bruno fernandez and

10:04he

10:25looked offside real time operating at the same speed as it did at his peak as that's a long range

10:33effort

10:34beaten out by costa it's fabian ruiz that hit that one for tina

10:45the turn is coming through there just under 66 000 tonight

10:50off course nino mendez left of allen is wake and the comeback towards ronaldo

10:59but he just needs that one half chance at one moment

11:04having struggled throughout this second half to have any kind of an impact he can still do those

11:10sorts of things doing what he's always done best coaching those chances for his country

11:18and we're level for the second time

11:25again ronaldo's the one he puts the ball into the back of the net but look at mendez here

11:31realizes the spanish right back has wandered into a poor area drives into the 18 yard box

11:39the normand comes back off his heel goes up in the air and once kukare finds himself under the ball

11:47there's only going to be one winner ronaldo shepherds him under the ball

11:53pokes at home what he's right for he will be saying that's why you never take me off

12:04age in nine for the 40-year-old

12:12zidamendi inglesa

12:14almost taken off by neto there could be a chance here breaking through with pedri

12:19mcadrino mendez got there and then a second time

12:23what a presence he is in defense for portugal

12:27it's unbelievable stuff from mendez he's second best twice make sure the shot doesn't go in on goal

12:34tempo in the spanish play at times

12:37quite labored need to keep the tempo up keep the portuguese moving

12:41country switches it nico williams now semedo verano silva got to meet him

12:49williams gets a shot away

12:56it's as if williams way to ball it portugal looking an awful lot more solid

13:01it's a made out it's a right back

13:04for that of silver he's got tomato with him here is nelson semedo

13:09and it's signing up by you know they are going to make a couple of changes portugal

13:15white nico williams

13:17you have a red shirt spank

13:20yamal

13:22comes in on to his left and drives it good hands for diogo costa

13:28now yamal trying to get france on the counter or spain on the counter attack

13:32and that will surely be a booking for nato

13:38you can see pedro neto happy to give the foul away

13:47stepping out of the facts super ending

13:49where that's the ball the one ahead of him comes out to isco isco strikes one good save costa

13:55he's clearly got over that little injury

13:58because he needed to go a full stretch for that one from isco what a return to the international

14:02stage that would have been a beautiful strike from isco just under the bar

14:08and he played over 250 games for wolves before that move to saty arabia

14:25so he'll still get the kudos for that yeah i love seeing that defending don't want to just put your

14:32hand up and hope that the linesman puts the flag up

14:34go and make sure effective play brilliant from vega

14:40brilliant defensive walk from lamin yamal if he switches off there

14:46portugal are on the counter attack

14:48and he called it quito ronaldo struggling

14:55so he'll be replaced by consolo ramos

15:04and if it does go to extra time it'll likely see us

15:07treated to the ronaldo sideline

15:10and takes that we saw most keenly in that euro 2016 final key when he lived off early

15:15pretty much taking over the managerial role the edge of the dugout

15:20and the managerial role the mascot role is mr portugal

15:27in fact it was the second final involving spain or the netherlands who went to extra time

15:31here is rafael leal gets in behind ziva mendio he's blocked out by robin aloran

15:36who probably had no choice because leal was looking menacing

15:44driving in and hope for the best here it comes from bruno beaten away by seaman and it's off vega

15:49for a

15:50goal kick

15:54there we are a little early

15:57but it's been a really good game

15:59draw probably fair over the course of the 90 minutes or so we move into extra time minus

16:05the presence of cristiano ronaldo but with some world-class players still strutting their stuff

16:13well we're ready to go both sets of players ready to go and now our referee is too

16:25got a run again from nudo mendez

16:27in towards tomato the wrong side of the post

16:34i should score

16:37cimado it's on his left foot i think that's the only saving grace

16:53that's the one who had the chance to take the strike on

17:02racing away into the space strikes robin and all one out he's still going nudo mendez stumbles goes

17:08down i'm not sure there was any contacts

17:14oh here we go

17:15it's a little too much to say for himself here

17:31we've reached boiling point again it's been a brilliant game

17:36it's a needle creeping in now that's a little bit of extra spice to it

17:42it didn't look like a foul in real time dave i didn't think it was a penalty

17:47and he's

17:51marina

17:53yamal

17:55well if he goes with a big effort on goal a long way out

18:00fernandez

18:01fernandez

18:01prods it down for real

18:04he's giving it away

18:06play in half time

18:10referee telling the players to get switched quickly enough he wants to get on with it

18:13we go deep into the night here in munich and as we were at full time in the 90 still

18:20portugal

18:20two spain two spain two we shall see thank you tommy so you are not his light

18:28he's allowed the off hot off night deep in their own midfield

18:36power comes out on top there oh he's gone for gold

18:42well credit to him for spotting the opportunity

18:47what an extraordinary goal that would have been

18:50savannah releases from nip nido menders releases rafael leão

18:54power brings him down into the book he'll go

18:59that's not one anybody likes to see if you're on pedro poros team in that spanish dressing room

19:06you're patting him on the back telling them it's a good foul

19:12diaz he'll put it in there to that far post and the header for jota

19:18well he was being watched closely by porro

19:26well two hours of football could not separate them

19:29but for the second time the nation's league final will be decided by a penalty shootout

19:35that man won't be taking one but there's going to be a lot of pressure on the two sets of

19:40players

19:40and of course the two goalkeepers who will now be taking center stage you know simon

19:45and diogo costa extra time complete it remains portugal two spain two penalties incoming

19:53well we're going to start off with gonzalo ramas for portugal in front of their old supporters for

19:58this penalty shootout up against you and i see him on he did save a couple of penalties two years

20:04ago ramas down the middle and portugal are up and running

20:10good penalty from ramas doesn't go for accuracy just goes for power down the middle

20:20bottom corner nothing costa could do there

20:26classy panel moreno

20:32he wants to make a move and he did make the right move but still couldn't get anywhere near it

20:37what a brilliant penalty

20:41he's waving the hairband round he's happy with the penalty strange technique creeps up to the ball

20:51in the ball quality of the ball on right now in the ball and the ball roll

20:52and calm two two

20:56good penalty from bayena pixie spot rolls it in there

21:05and scoring as you'd expect

21:11so casual from briona fernandez made it look easy

21:22and esco gets his goal just about it's the closest either goalkeeper has come to keeping it out

21:30Diogo Costa got a firm hand to it that is a fantastic strike in keeping with his performance

21:41levels not just tonight but throughout the season with one of the great right backs the left backs

21:47rather in world football at the moment available and he's saved Diogo Costa

21:59massive moment for him and for Portugal

22:05so River Neves

22:08for Portugal and for the Nations League title

22:13and he buries it

22:20Portugal become the first nation to win this trophy for a second time

22:26and look what it means to them

22:30Ronaldo in tears no surprise there

22:34while the rest of his teammates celebrate together

22:40typical moment for Alvaro Morata but he's very experienced

22:44you feel he's got broad shoulders to deal with such a development in his career

22:49but it is Portugal

22:51certainly weren't favourites coming in tonight's game Keith

22:54but they've just about come out on top

22:57awards the Nations League trophy to Cristiano Ronaldo for the second time
