00:02:37tonight, but the Cavs, of course, have
00:02:39a lot to figure out. Let's kind of
00:02:41dissect where they're falling short so far
00:02:43this season, UD. I mean, for me,
00:02:45I just think the pain of getting your ass
00:02:47sent home should drive you.
00:02:49I just feel like the pain of getting sent home
00:02:51should drive you. You should fall in love with the struggle
00:02:53of what it takes to be a champion. And I'm just
00:02:55not seeing that from the Cleveland Cavaliers, and I'm not
00:02:57seeing it consistently enough. There's just
00:02:59too much slippage in the muscle areas. There's too much
00:03:01slippage in the areas that make you be a champion. There's too
00:03:03much slippage. Your paint points have gone down.
00:03:04You're not defending in the paint as much as you used
00:03:07to. Your deflections
00:03:09are going down. Your guards, who are
00:03:11explosive and dynamic, they're not getting
00:03:13in the paint, creating opportunities for other
00:03:15guys. So there's just slippage in so many
00:03:17areas. And when you're talking about really
00:03:19being a champion, once you check certain boxes
00:03:21as a championship team, you don't go back
00:03:23to those boxes. You move forward from those boxes.
00:03:25So all the things that they did well last
00:03:27year, they're slippaging. And
00:03:29that's the thing that I don't understand. You bring in
00:03:31Peyton Watson, who's a guy who's a defensive guy.
00:03:33Why is there slippage defensively? Those are the
00:03:35things that I don't understand about that team. So
00:03:37that's what I'm looking at with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
00:03:39They're very capable. I saw them in the second
00:03:41half against OKC when they went on that 18-3
00:03:43run. Everything was downhill. Everything
00:03:45was in the paint with force. So they're capable of
00:03:47doing it. But that takes intentionality every
00:03:49single night. And that's what they're not bringing.
00:03:51Yeah, I think getting Peyton Watson back will
00:03:53help them defensively. But the guy I'm
00:03:55looking at is Evan Mobley. You know, this year
00:03:57Evan Mobley and Jared Allen together
00:03:59have not been great. Last year
00:04:01plus nine this year, minus nine. So
00:04:03getting those two on the same
00:04:05page. But I agree with you, D. I think
00:04:07when Evan Mobley is at his best,
00:04:09he is downhill. He's grabbing rebounds.
00:04:11He's pushing on the break. He's
00:04:13making quick decisions. He is shooting the ball
00:04:15well from three this season, which is helping.
00:04:17But he is so talented.
00:04:20So him being
00:04:21able to dictate that the physicality
00:04:23of the game is so important. If he can set that
00:04:25up early, I think that works to his advantage.
00:04:27Yeah, they've turned the ball over.
00:04:29Their live ball turnovers are killer. They're
00:04:30not great in transition defense.
00:04:34And offensively, I think
00:04:35they struggled a bit to
00:04:37incorporate Peyton Watson, who
00:04:39looked a little bit out of sorts, out of
00:04:41place in the first couple of games.
00:04:43Now he missed two games. He's coming back
00:04:44tonight. But that should help their defense
00:04:46and really, you know, lock in on that
00:04:48end. I agree with you that
00:04:50Allen and Mobley haven't looked great
00:04:52together on the court. They've been
00:04:54together too long. They need to figure
00:04:56out what's the go-to. Are we going
00:04:58small? Are we going one big? Are we still
00:05:00liking this two-big lineup?
00:05:02There's, to me, they've been together so long
00:05:04and still there are so many question marks.
00:05:06I was going to say, it seems like it's all
00:05:07questions right now.
00:05:10We got answers here.
00:05:12What do you maybe want to see more of?
00:05:14Well, I want to see in that second group,
00:05:15because in that first group, there's a lot
00:05:16of standing in the corner for Peyton Watson,
00:05:18and I understand that. But in that second group,
00:05:20he's getting guarded by the five-man.
00:05:21And if he's getting guarded by the five-man,
00:05:23he needs to be in every action. With his
00:05:24athleticism and his quickness, especially if that's
00:05:26going to be Joel Embiid, he needs to be in every
00:05:28action. As soon as he comes across half
00:05:29court and he notices that the five-man is on
00:05:31him, he needs to be up. He needs to be the
00:05:32trigger guy. He needs to be able to get in
00:05:33that pocket and create for others. That is
00:05:35how he's going to get himself easy buckets,
00:05:36calling audibles like that for himself when
00:05:38he has the five-man on him. So that's
00:05:40something that he has to work with.
00:05:41We also, of course, have two great offensive
00:05:43talents, Donovan Mitchell and James Harden, but
00:05:45it does feel like they're still trying to
00:05:47figure out how to play together a bit, BG.
00:05:49Yeah, which is a little bit disappointing. I
00:05:51mean, they're both such dynamic scores. You know, I
00:05:53think the start to this season isn't
00:05:55quite what we expected, but they are
00:05:57capable guys of getting it going and
00:05:59getting it going quickly. But I think for
00:06:01me, you know, defensively from the guard
00:06:03spot, like last year, even in the playoffs,
00:06:05I thought Max Struess did such a good job
00:06:07of just being that guy that was like, no,
00:06:09no, no, we're going to play hard. So for
00:06:11me, Cleveland finding that person, whoever
00:06:14it is, it could be Donovan Mitchell. Somebody
00:06:15needs to take the reins there. All right,
00:06:17we're getting close to tip-off in game
00:06:18one of our NBA Cup doubleheader, the Sixers
00:06:21against the Cavs. So right now, it's time
00:06:23to check in with our friends in Cleveland.
00:06:29Taylor, it's game night on Prime. Rocket
00:06:32Arena is 45 minutes from Akron, the hometown of
00:06:37the prodigal son, LeBron James. Tonight, he
00:06:40returns to his old stomping grounds as a member of
00:06:43the Philadelphia 76ers. His incredible resume
00:06:47includes the 2016 NBA title with the Cavaliers' indelible
00:06:52memories here in the state of Ohio. Tonight, it's the
00:06:57Emirates NBA Cup. The Philadelphia 76ers and the
00:07:02Cleveland Cavaliers, the Sixers 1-0 in cup play. The
00:07:07Cavaliers playing in their first cup game of the season.
00:07:11Let's give you the breakdown. 30 teams split into six groups of
00:07:14five. Each team plays four group games, two home, two road, eight
00:07:18teams advanced to the knockout round, six group winners, two
00:07:21wild cards. We will have the Cup Championship for you live from
00:07:25Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis in December. And with that, we
00:07:29welcome you to Cleveland. Hi, everybody. I and Eagle Stan Van
00:07:32Gundy, Cassidy Hubbard, the rest of our NBA on Prime crew. You've
00:07:35got the wine and gold court. You've got the cup intensity. We
00:07:39are expecting it to be at a high level tonight. Yeah, the
00:07:43different courts announced that it's a cup game and the cup
00:07:46brings out the best in all of these players. They're playing
00:07:50for $600,000 a man. If you win this thing, the intensity is
00:07:55going to be up. And Stan, Philadelphia, they've been the
00:07:58talk of the NBA so far during the young season. This group of
00:08:02has meshed together quite nicely. LeBron James and company,
00:08:07they seem to like each other and it's translating on the
00:08:10floor. Yeah, always fun to win. And LeBron has led the way,
00:08:13obviously knows more about winning than any player in this
00:08:17league, trying to become the first player in NBA history to
00:08:21win titles with four different teams. And he's been the
00:08:24quarterback. His passing has been phenomenal and they've all
00:08:29bought in. This is a very balanced basketball team. And I
00:08:33think it's LeBron's example more than anything else. And
00:08:36tonight, the matchup against the Cavaliers. Cleveland finding
00:08:39its footing a bit here in the early going. They're four and
00:08:42four. It's a team that went to the Eastern Conference finals
00:08:44last year. So expectations are hard. They could use a quality
00:08:47win. It's in cup play and certainly Donovan Mitchell is
00:08:52going to be asked to do a little bit more. Well, look,
00:08:55Donovan Mitchell right now has just, he's at career lows in
00:09:00field goal attempts and three point attempts and the lowest
00:09:04scoring season since his rookie year. He's been focusing on
00:09:08getting other people involved, but I think they need Donovan
00:09:11Mitchell to beat Donovan Mitchell. And moments ago, our own
00:09:14Cassidy Hubbard with Spider. Thanks, I am Don. Kenny Atkinson
00:09:20told us that heading into the season, his message to you was to
00:09:23make others better. How are you balancing setting other guys up
00:09:27while being the scorer we all know you are? I think the biggest
00:09:30thing is just trying to find my pockets, right? I think
00:09:32obviously, you know, it's early in the season. We're eight
00:09:36games in, right? So it's not going to be perfect, but I think
00:09:38the biggest thing for me is just continuing to find a way to be
00:09:40myself, but also, like I said, guys better. First cup game for you
00:09:43all tonight against LeBron and the Red Hot Sixers. What would
00:09:46a win like tonight do for the belief around this team? For
00:09:50the what? The belief around this team right now. Well, I think
00:09:52we already have belief. I think the biggest thing now is
00:09:54just, you know, let it come to fruition. Like continue to trust
00:09:57the process of what we've been doing, but obviously a win
00:09:59like this and a team like that, that Red Hot, we gave up the
00:10:02lead against the first game of the season. So obviously, that
00:10:04would do a lot for us, but I think the biggest thing is
00:10:06continue to trust what we do and come out ready to go. Thanks for
00:10:09your time and good luck today. Appreciate it. Back to you. All right,
00:10:11Cassidy, palpable buzz inside this arena. The 76ers and
00:10:16Cavaliers, LeBron James back in Cleveland. Second of three
00:10:20meetings. We've got it for you coming up as we send it back to
00:10:22Taylor in the studio.
00:10:28The question this offseason, of course, was how are the Sixers
00:10:31going to make it work with these huge new pieces and
00:10:34personalities, but it is very much working so far. The best record in
00:10:37the NBA at eight and one. So on the floor, how are they getting it
00:10:41done, BG? Yeah, to me, it's been defense. I think they've been
00:10:44phenomenal defensively. Their second defensive rating right
00:10:46now. I think that will probably level out a little bit. Some of
00:10:50the teams they've played have just missed shots, but you got
00:10:53to give credit where credit's due. They have guys that can get it
00:10:55done. I mean, Tyrese Maxey is actually playing extremely well
00:10:58defensively first for a small guard. VJ sort of just a guy that
00:11:03can do a little bit of everything out there. LeBron using his
00:11:06IQ. So I think that's been the key to their start is they have
00:11:10been so solid defensively. Yeah, agreed. If you would have
00:11:14told me there would be second in defense games, I would have
00:11:17laughed. I'm surprised how well they meshed together all these
00:11:21new pieces they threw in there. Joel is moving better on both
00:11:25ends and kind of playing with it himself, can pick a spot on
00:11:28offense. Maxey's been an absolute killer. Dominant,
00:11:32playing great, leads the league in minutes, leads the league in
00:11:35fourth quarter scoring. He's been incredible. So they win in all
00:11:38these clutch games. I really like what we're seeing. Jalen Brown is
00:11:42sorely finding his groove at 30 the other night in Detroit, kind of
00:11:46taking over when Maxey wasn't playing well. So they just got so many
00:11:49weapons and so many options. If they're healthy, they're going to be
00:11:53there at the end. But see, Dirk, that's the thing. So many big
00:11:56names. You have, of course, four-time MVP LeBron James. You
00:11:58have 2023 MVP Joel Embiid. Finals MVP Jalen Brown and a top
00:12:03talent in Tyrese Maxey. How have all of these stars settled into
00:12:07their roles, UD? Because of the things that you said. All those
00:12:10things allow those guys to be a little more selfless. Selfless.
00:12:13Not selfish. Selfless. All those things allow those guys to be a
00:12:17little more selfless. And I think when you look at this team, this is
00:12:21the position that these guys want to be in. They want to be in a
00:12:23position where they're selfless right now and they want young guys to drive this
00:12:26right now. So you have a Joel Embiid driving this. You have Tyrese Maxey
00:12:29driving this. But the thing about this with a team is you have to have role
00:12:32defining, which is tough when you've got veteran guys. You have to have role
00:12:36acceptance, which is tough when you've got to have veteran guys. Now, if you can get
00:12:40role defining and role acceptance, then you get role dominance. And that's where
00:12:43they're at right now. These guys are all dominant.
00:12:49They're all defining. They define their roles. They accepted their roles. And now they're
00:12:53dominating the roles. And that's not easy to do. But they're in a point in their
00:12:56career where they can do that because they've had so much success. Yeah, there's a nice
00:12:59little prime 360 video there. But I thought this was a great quote, of course, from Jalen
00:13:03Brown this week. He just said, Max, he's been leading the way 100 percent. He's been
00:13:07here. This is his team. How big is it just to hear a guy say, this is Tyrese Maxey's team?
00:13:12I think it's huge. I think he's absolutely right. The one thing that, I mean, he's
00:13:15Maxey's been on a tear offensively. He's been fantastic. The thing that I love about him,
00:13:20we said it in pre-earlier, he's always smiling. Like his personality is such an
00:13:25infectious leader for that team. But whether it's Joel, LeBron, I mean, all these guys are
00:13:29older. They're more experienced, but they are looking at this guy who's just having fun
00:13:34playing basketball. All right. And we're going to have some fun watching them play.
00:13:38Thanks for watching MBM Prime pregame presented by CarMax.
00:13:43Our doubleheader tonight gets underway in Cleveland. The Sixers taking on the Cavs in a big matchup
00:13:48in East Group B. Tip-off is just a few minutes away with I.N. Eagle, Stan Van Gundy, and
00:13:53Cassie Hubbard
00:13:54right after this.
00:14:02You're watching a special presentation of the NBA on Prime.
00:14:13He's played the role of villain.
00:14:15I got the utmost respect for this franchise, the utmost respect for these fans, and my
00:14:19intention was not to hurt anyone.
00:14:27The Cavaliers are NBA champions.
00:14:31Cleveland, this is for you.
00:14:33Now embraced with open arms.
00:14:39Tonight, the King returns once more on Prime.
00:14:46We welcome you to the Emirates NBA Cup with coverage on Prime presented by Wingstop.
00:14:53Tonight, it is East Group B action with the Philadelphia 76ers taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers here
00:15:01at Rocket Arena. 76ers got a cup win a week ago, beating the Knicks 98 to 93 on their home
00:15:10floor.
00:15:10The Cavaliers are playing in their first cup game.
00:15:15Let's check out the starting lineup.
00:15:16First for Philadelphia, it's Maxie, Edgecombe, Brown, James, and Embiid.
00:15:22Philadelphia, best record in the NBA at 8-1.
00:15:26They are riding a five-game winning streak.
00:15:29Meanwhile, Cleveland has dropped two in a row, both games against Oklahoma City.
00:15:34Harden, Mitchell, Watson is back for Cleveland.
00:15:38Merrill and Mobley, no Jared Allen.
00:15:41He suffered a right knee injury in the first quarter of their loss to the Thunder on Wednesday night.
00:15:47Kenny Atkinson, what he has seen from this group is something that he believes they can work out.
00:15:56Part of the process, some new personnel.
00:15:59Now, defensively, has been the big surprise, the drop-off that we've seen for Philadelphia.
00:16:06It's been all roses, and LeBron James back in very familiar territory.
00:16:11Yeah, and the fans here before the game giving him another great reception, as they should.
00:16:17He's done a lot for this city, both on and off the court.
00:16:20They're 11 seasons with Cleveland in two stints, including the 2016 NBA title.
00:16:29But, a new chapter for LeBron James, and is it ever working out?
00:16:34They are 4-0 on the road, first time the 76ers have started a season 4-0 on the road
00:16:41in 25 years.
00:16:42Yeah, look, it's been a great start, and Nick Nurse, you see him there.
00:16:49NBA record, third season starting 8-1.
00:16:54These two teams did play in Cleveland's season opener.
00:16:59They led by 29 against the 76ers.
00:17:03Could not close it out.
00:17:05Philadelphia came from behind to get the W.
00:17:08No bonus, so the depth up front tested for Philadelphia.
00:17:13He's out with a neck injury.
00:17:14We mentioned Jared Allen.
00:17:15He is sitting this one out with a knee injury.
00:17:17Well, yeah, and also for the Sixers, having your backup center out,
00:17:22and then the next guy they would turn to, and maybe even before Spong,
00:17:26Dominic Barlow, has been out all year.
00:17:29So, they are really thin up front, and we'll see Nick Nurse just try to patch it up.
00:17:34The Cavaliers control the tip.
00:17:36They do get Jabari Walker back in the lineup.
00:17:39We expect to see him tonight for Philadelphia off the bench.
00:17:44Cleveland fell 124-116 in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night.
00:17:49Mitchell to Merrill.
00:17:51He fires a triple.
00:17:52It's short, and it's rebounded by Brown.
00:17:56Quickly accelerating.
00:17:58Edgecombe hammers it home.
00:18:00Well, this is where Philly's at their best in transition.
00:18:02They've got four guys out there that are absolutely great taking the ball to the ring in transition.
00:18:10Mitchell penetrates and scores.
00:18:12Yeah, I want to see more of that.
00:18:14I know Kenny Atkinson has talked to him about setting up other people,
00:18:17which we saw in the first possession.
00:18:19But this guy is a dynamic scorer.
00:18:22Kenny said, hey, I know he can get 40 every night.
00:18:25Well, I think they've got to let him go do it at times.
00:18:28Mitchell averaging 22 and a half points per game.
00:18:30The lowest point total since his rookie year turnover.
00:18:33Mitchell head and shoulder fake.
00:18:35He takes it right at LeBron James for the deuce.
00:18:39Well, I like that because I think Cleveland needs to run more in general,
00:18:44but especially against Philly.
00:18:45They have a great half-court defense,
00:18:47but they're vulnerable in transition,
00:18:50and that's five straight in transition from Donovan Mitchell.
00:18:54Donovan Mitchell on a heater.
00:18:56He has accounted for all of Cleveland's points.
00:19:00He's got a 6-2 with that.
00:19:02Only a two-pointer.
00:19:03James, that is a three, and it's short, and it's rebounded by Watson.
00:19:08James struggling from three.
00:19:09Six for 24 now on the year, 25 percent from three.
00:19:14And a kickball against Embiid as Mitchell tried to thread the needle.
00:19:20On the drive, no one comes to help as he gets the split,
00:19:23and then in transition, you can see he's looking for everybody else,
00:19:28but then sees that he's the guy.
00:19:33Half-court set, Harden floats it up, put down hard by Mobley.
00:19:39Well, Harden's always been great at that.
00:19:42He gets that one over Embiid, who he used to throw that pass to in Philly.
00:19:478-0 run.
00:19:49Harden formally with the 76ers.
00:19:53And an 8-2 lead for the Cavaliers.
00:19:56Edgcoup, feed it inside, mismatched.
00:19:59Embiid short.
00:20:00He had Harden elected to go with the fadeaway.
00:20:03Yeah, and that might be a little bit of a problem.
00:20:0683 percent of Embiid's turnover, uh,
00:20:10shots so far have been jump shots.
00:20:13Just a great lob against the drop coverage.
00:20:17Harden's so dangerous when he can get down in the paint.
00:20:22The foul is called on Edgecombe, so Cleveland triggers in.
00:20:27Mobley tried to turn on Embiid.
00:20:30Watson, the pull-up is pure.
00:20:34The Cavaliers have made their last five shots to take a 10-2 lead.
00:20:42James asking for it against Mitchell.
00:20:45Banging that dribble, double-team comes, ball movement,
00:20:49leads back to James, fires, and misses on a triple.
00:20:53He's just really had trouble getting it to go.
00:20:55He and Embiid both from three have struggled.
00:20:58His sixer offense has struggled until the fourth quarter of every game.
00:21:02Mitchell turns the corner.
00:21:04Harden.
00:21:05Swing, swing.
00:21:07Watson can't hit the three.
00:21:09Watson had such a great year from three last year in Denver,
00:21:13shooting 41 percent, but he's under 17 percent now.
00:21:19Knocked away by Mobley and a turnover.
00:21:22Two-on-two developing.
00:21:24Mitchell crosses.
00:21:25Banker, no.
00:21:27Pretty obvious foul there that didn't get caught.
00:21:30The maxi pull-up off the heel.
00:21:33Our officiating crew is Kevin Scott, J.B. DeRosa, and O'Connell.
00:21:3910-2 lead for Cleveland.
00:21:42Off the high screen, Harden, drive-in kick.
00:21:45They give Watson the J, and it rims out.
00:21:50James with his head on a swivel.
00:21:5276ers have missed their last five shots.
00:21:56Embiid will take and miss the three.
00:21:59He's now missed 17 straight threes.
00:22:04Early offense here.
00:22:05Harden gets a screen from Merrill.
00:22:07Now it's in isolation.
00:22:09The high dribble against Brown.
00:22:11Harden lost it, got it back, and he draws the foul.
00:22:15Not exactly as it was drawn up, but still effective.
00:22:18Not exactly at all.
00:22:20James Harden upset, even though he got a call.
00:22:22Got the call because he thought he got fouled right there.
00:22:27And had to make another move to get the call.
00:22:30He wasn't too happy about that one, but he is at the free throw line where he has spent a
00:22:34good part of his career.
00:22:37A career 86% shooter, Harden now in year number 18 in the NBA.
00:22:43Sign him to a three-year $97 million deal.
00:22:48The Beard returning to Cleveland.
00:22:50And we're going to get a timeout.
00:22:51Turned out.
00:22:52Turned out.
00:22:5311-2 lead.
00:22:54The Cavaliers off to a strong start against the 76ers.
00:22:58Thanks in large part to Spida.
00:23:02The web is working.
00:23:07Flavor on.
00:23:08Wingstop is here.
00:23:10By CarMax.
00:23:11Want to drive?
00:23:12And by State Farm.
00:23:14Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.
00:23:18Such a big piece of NBA history.
00:23:21So much hype surrounding LeBron James coming out of high school.
00:23:26To see him achieve all of those goals and then some is just simply incredible.
00:23:33Well, look, I've said it many times.
00:23:36We can have a lot of arguments about best players and stuff.
00:23:40There's no argument on who's had the best career in NBA history.
00:23:44And it is LeBron James.
00:23:47Joel Embiid very upset.
00:23:49He didn't get a call on the other end.
00:23:51And then another foul called on this side.
00:23:55Yeah, that's a foul.
00:23:57There is no question that's a foul.
00:24:00Mitchell went for the strip.
00:24:02Going to get a substitution here as Anthony Simons checks in.
00:24:08Vijay Edgecombe is called on his second foul.
00:24:11Philadelphia is one of seven from the field.
00:24:14They've turned it over three times.
00:24:15Well, when these teams met the first time and they got down,
00:24:18we're down 24 at halftime, it's because Philly had 15 turnovers in the first half.
00:24:24Mobley got a three.
00:24:26Now, if you're playing against Joel Embiid, you're going to have open threes.
00:24:33And Mobley off to a career start sheet three and another Philly Turner.
00:24:39The steal by Donovan Mitchell.
00:24:42Philly gets back defensively.
00:24:43It's a 15-0 run.
00:24:46Mobley bounces in hard and extends.
00:24:49Nine to shoot.
00:24:51This is terrible spacing.
00:24:54They clear it for Watson.
00:24:56He tries to take it at Simons.
00:24:58The fade short.
00:25:00And a long rebound to James.
00:25:03Watson tries to greet him.
00:25:05Knocked away by Mobley.
00:25:09Just under seven minutes to go in his first quarter.
00:25:12Philadelphia stuck at two points.
00:25:14James, the banker goes.
00:25:16They did a great job using his body.
00:25:19Peyton Watson, a great leaper, a great shot blocker.
00:25:22And James didn't give him a chance to have any room to get off.
00:25:26The lane opens up for James Harden and he takes it right to the rack.
00:25:31That's already ten points in the paint for Cleveland.
00:25:34And something our guys in the studio talked about was them needing to attack the paint a little bit more.
00:25:41At a 17-4 advantage now for the Cavaliers.
00:25:44Swing it and lead the fade.
00:25:47No.
00:25:49Said it earlier, I think it's just it's all jump shots.
00:25:51That's the third lowest affected field goal percentage in the entire league right now.
00:25:58And Harden is fouled by Simons.
00:26:01And there's just no resistance here.
00:26:07Confusion and Harden to the rim.
00:26:11And there is the foul on Simons.
00:26:13But it's not a shooting.
00:26:16Got some changes here with Dean Wade, the former Cavalier.
00:26:21Spent the first seven years of his NBA career here in Cleveland.
00:26:25In for Philadelphia.
00:26:27And Mario Hazonia has checked in for Cleveland.
00:26:32And his second stint in the NBA is joined by the rookie Malik Thomas out of Arkansas.
00:26:40James Harden.
00:26:41His three.
00:26:42No.
00:26:43Caught by Hazonia.
00:26:45Lorenzo Charles style.
00:26:46Well, Hazonia has been great on the offensive glass all year for this team.
00:26:52Bringing great, great energy.
00:26:56And it's 19-4.
00:26:59Cleveland.
00:27:00Feed the post.
00:27:01Embiid on an island with Mobley.
00:27:04Repost.
00:27:05Hazonia shaves over.
00:27:07Embiid fights through it.
00:27:08Doesn't get the roll, but he is going to the free throw line.
00:27:10I think they need more of that from Embiid.
00:27:14Look, he's a good shooter normally, but shoot 83% of your shots as jumpers.
00:27:21As big and strong as he is.
00:27:23He needs to do more of that because he is a great free throw shooter.
00:27:27If he can get himself to the line 10 for 10 the other night against Detroit.
00:27:3488% on the year.
00:27:37Nick Nurse does play his starters a lot of minutes, and that has included Embiid.
00:27:42Yeah, and that's the way he gets it in shape.
00:27:45And I said it last week when we had the New York game.
00:27:48I think one of the advantages Nick Nurse has always given his team is his best players play more minutes
00:27:54than the other team's best players.
00:27:58Second one here for Embiid.
00:28:00He is wearing two different sneakers.
00:28:05Good observation there.
00:28:07I mean, you're like, I didn't even notice that until you said it.
00:28:11This is what I'm here for.
00:28:13Okay.
00:28:13Observe it moments like that.
00:28:15Harden stripped of the ball by Embiid.
00:28:18And it's out of bounds.
00:28:19Last touch by Philadelphia.
00:28:24There it is.
00:28:29One white, one white.
00:28:30Do we know the reason for that?
00:28:31No, no, no idea.
00:28:34Just a style choice.
00:28:38There's Mobley on a bounce for Harden.
00:28:40Chuck locks down to one.
00:28:42Does Mobley know it?
00:28:43He tosses it up.
00:28:44He does hit the back of the iron.
00:28:46And the rebound knocked around.
00:28:49Won't go in on the tip.
00:28:52Somehow Proctor comes away with it.
00:28:54Hugsonia, no good.
00:28:56I like the effort from Cleveland though.
00:28:58Udonis Haslam talked about it in the studio.
00:29:01Haven't seen enough of this.
00:29:03And tonight, they seem to be off to a good start in terms of their defense and their effort.
00:29:10Moxie trying to get involved here offensively.
00:29:12That'll help as he drains the triple.
00:29:15Timeout Cleveland.
00:29:17Timeout Cleveland.
00:29:17The Sixers have cut it to 10 with 427 to go.
00:29:22Opening quarter.
00:29:25In front, time now for Cassidy Hubbard with tonight's home court report.
00:29:30Presented by Winstock Cassidy.
00:29:32Yeah, Ian.
00:29:33How about the bronze home court?
00:29:34Which is just about 44 minutes from here in Akron.
00:29:37A museum basically with the bronze whole life in it.
00:29:40Including the apartment he shared with his mom Gloria.
00:29:43The rim from his time at St. Vincent St. Mary.
00:29:46The white suit from draft night.
00:29:48All of it right where it started.
00:29:49And guys, he thought about the storybook ending too.
00:29:52Cleveland was the only team he met with in person.
00:29:55Not even Philly got a meeting this summer.
00:29:57He said the Cavs were in consideration for sure.
00:29:59But that's in the past.
00:30:01Now he says he's having a great time with Philadelphia.
00:30:03Loves their competitiveness.
00:30:05And quote, more than happy with his decision.
00:30:07And guys, he'll always be a kid from Akron.
00:30:10But in year 24, he still has some chapters to write with the Sixers team.
00:30:13Yeah, no doubt about it, Cassidy.
00:30:15His 28th career game against the Cavaliers.
00:30:17He's averaged 26.6 points per game versus Cleveland.
00:30:23Thomas Bryant in.
00:30:25We mentioned no Jared Allen.
00:30:26So they've had to shift around their big man rotation with Mobley starting in the middle.
00:30:33Back in by James.
00:30:34Bounce it.
00:30:35Embiid.
00:30:36Bryant didn't bite on the fake.
00:30:38And well handled by Thomas Bryant, the veteran.
00:30:41Joel Embiid's got great touch.
00:30:43But I would love to see him power that ball to the basket right there.
00:30:47And just go through Thomas Bryant.
00:30:50Turnover by Hazonia.
00:30:56James Harden sits.
00:30:58Mitchell returns.
00:31:00Two consecutive turnovers for the Cavaliers there.
00:31:03First two of the night.
00:31:05We're down to 346 to play in this opening quarter.
00:31:11Inside.
00:31:13Wild attempt by Embiid.
00:31:14Nothing there.
00:31:15He's 0 for 7.
00:31:17Get it ahead.
00:31:18Thomas.
00:31:18No hesitation on a triple.
00:31:20Well, that guy can shoot the ball.
00:31:22You were talking about it before.
00:31:24Haven't seen him in college.
00:31:26Played for John Calipari at Arkansas.
00:31:28Shot it at 42% from long range in his long season with the Razorbacks.
00:31:34He came in shooting at 46% this year.
00:31:38We know that guy can get going.
00:31:40Nice answer by Anfernee Simons.
00:31:45Simons is one of the most explosive scorers in the league.
00:31:49He can really get it going.
00:31:53Mitchell swings.
00:31:55Thomas again.
00:31:57Malik Thomas with a downtown hit.
00:32:00Wow.
00:32:05Legitimate shot maker.
00:32:0825-12 Cleveland.
00:32:10Maxie two-man game with James.
00:32:12He gets the step on Thomas.
00:32:13Floats it up.
00:32:14Missed it.
00:32:17Lay down to 27%.
00:32:19Oh, the no lock.
00:32:22Mitchell to Bryan on the rack attack.
00:32:25Brian.
00:32:25That is the Mitchell.
00:32:34And a foul is called way outside.
00:32:38Simons is going to shoot three.
00:32:39He's looking for inside of his proctor in his first, geez, second.
00:32:44Malik Thomas, Pittsburgh native.
00:32:48He's got that deep range.
00:32:54And a perfect delivery from Donovan Mitchell.
00:32:58Up to 50% now from three on the season.
00:33:04Now was called on Proctor and Kenny Atkinson's going to challenge it.
00:33:11Just before they were about to shoot free throws, Kenny walked out on the floor and made the motion.
00:33:17So timeout taken.
00:33:19Coach's challenge.
00:33:22Cleveland does not agree with the call on the floor.
00:33:25Time right now for a quick word from Wingstop.
00:33:34Well, this appears to be an open and shut case, Stan.
00:33:37I've never seen him go that quickly.
00:33:41He scraped him on the elbow.
00:33:42He did.
00:33:43I think the defender commits illegal contact to the right elbow of the shooter as he's in his open shooting
00:33:49motion.
00:33:49Therefore, the challenge is unsuccessful.
00:33:51The call stands.
00:33:53Cleveland will lose their ability to challenge for the remainder of the game.
00:33:56The only thing I can think is that maybe they thought we had an illegal screen on Joel Embiid
00:34:04that would supersede the foul on Proctor because that was pretty easy to spot.
00:34:10And they took virtually no time at the table to decide that.
00:34:14Quick call from Kevin Scott.
00:34:16Simons is going to the free throw line.
00:34:18And then Proctor, the second-year guard from Duke, picks up the personal.
00:34:22So maybe this is what they were looking at.
00:34:24And Joel Embiid grabs Proctor's wrist.
00:34:27That's what Kenny Atkinson was arguing.
00:34:30And Kenny Atkinson was absolutely right.
00:34:35That's what he was trying to get on the call.
00:34:37And that's what he was talking to the referees about.
00:34:39He wasn't disputing Simon's getting hit.
00:34:43What's changed with their defense this year that you've noticed?
00:34:48Well, it hasn't been very good, but Kenny Atkinson making the adjustment now.
00:34:53They don't have the same group they had a year ago where they tried to extend out and force turnovers
00:35:00and things.
00:35:01He wants his defense back more compact, trying to take away the pain, which they're doing a great job of
00:35:07right now against this Sixer team.
00:35:10And when we talked to Coach Atkinson prior to the game, he said, look, it's eight games.
00:35:14We're cleaning things up every day.
00:35:16It's going to get better.
00:35:18Sticking with the process.
00:35:20Mitchell misses on a three ball.
00:35:21Jabari Walker, we mentioned that he would be back in action.
00:35:24He is for Philadelphia and in the rotation.
00:35:28Maxey off balance.
00:35:29He gets it to go.
00:35:31Plus one.
00:35:32And Proctor's got two quick ones.
00:35:36Tyrese Proctor has jumped Craig Porter Jr. in the guard rotation.
00:35:42As you just mentioned it, two fouls now on Proctor.
00:35:45Yeah, that's a quick, quick move.
00:35:47No hesitation.
00:35:48Maxey caught it and went.
00:35:50He didn't hold it.
00:35:51Jab, step, isolation, catch and go.
00:35:55And this guy is as quick as anybody in the NBA.
00:35:57And he has been the most productive fourth quarter performer in the NBA this season.
00:36:03I think what happened early in this game is Philly said, well,
00:36:07it really worked for us last time, Cleveland, to be down 24.
00:36:11Let's see if we can recreate the same formula.
00:36:13Was that a big coaching point for you with your teams?
00:36:16Let's recreate when we just did not play very well but somehow won the game.
00:36:23As you mentioned, the first on these two teams, man, it was a 29-point lead
00:36:28for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
00:36:30And in modern NBA, no lead is safe.
00:36:35But normally 29, you think, all right, we'll get to the finish line.
00:36:38It was the biggest comeback in Philly franchise history
00:36:41and the biggest blown lead in Cavaliers franchise history.
00:36:46So it was pretty significant, and it became just a turnover battle.
00:36:5115 turnovers by Philly in the first half to go down 24,
00:36:56and then 15 turnovers in the second half by Cleveland to get outscored by 32.
00:37:03A foul was assessed to Dean Wade.
00:37:07So Mitchell now with eight points after scoring a quick six to open the game.
00:37:16A foul was assessed to win the game.
00:37:16Simon's swing for Brownie is yet to get involved here offensively.
00:37:21Brown tried the jab, cut off by Mitchell.
00:37:23Six to shoot, under two minutes to go on the first.
00:37:26Simon's misses on a three ball, and it's grabbed by Hazonia.
00:37:30Great defensive possession by Cleveland.
00:37:33Mitchell shifting gears, works inside as he gets around Wade for two.
00:37:39I like this version of Donovan Mitchell.
00:37:41And he had it right.
00:37:42He can get 40 on any given night.
00:37:47The lead is 13th.
00:37:49Brown across the lane for the bucket.
00:37:53Yeah, his first shot of the night.
00:37:56He was second in the lead last year in Boston, shooting almost 22 shots a game.
00:38:01Aggressive, Dipsy-Dudeau, but follows his own shot.
00:38:05And Thomas Bryant gets in there with his body.
00:38:09And we haven't seen Cleveland beat teams on effort, and tonight they are.
00:38:15Simon's long distance.
00:38:17Same team, Hazonia and Bryant.
00:38:22Two for one opportunity.
00:38:24Hazonia, Jordan, and Proctor grabs the rebound, powers back up.
00:38:29No good.
00:38:32Simon's comes out of the pack with it.
00:38:34Eight second difference shot clock the game clock.
00:38:36Early offense, the Jalen Brown three, no.
00:38:39Walker is fouled by Bryant.
00:38:44So Jabari Walker will head to the free throw line with 21.4 on the clock.
00:38:52Well, that's what they need from Jabari Walker.
00:38:56And whatever bigs they are able to bring off the bench,
00:38:59they need energy, rebounding, defense.
00:39:03Walker checks in at 6-7, 237.
00:39:06That was Philadelphia's first offensive rebound of the night.
00:39:10Let's take a look at the upcoming national TV schedule.
00:39:13Tomorrow night, NBA TV, Denver and Indiana from Mexico City.
00:39:19That will be followed by the Knicks and the Cavaliers right here in Cleveland.
00:39:22Peacock on Monday, Washington will be at Detroit.
00:39:26For more on these games, go to NBA.com or visit the NBA app.
00:39:36In the first meeting, Philadelphia outscored Cleveland 69-37 in the second half to win the game.
00:39:44Mitchell fires, air ball.
00:39:47Caught by Proctor, another opportunity.
00:39:50Mitchell, ball fake, Proctor beats the buzzer but comes up short.
00:39:57It's an 11-point cushion for the Cavaliers over the 76ers.
00:40:02You're watching the Emirates NBA Cup with coverage on Prime presented by Weekstop.
00:40:07Winning quarter, you've got the Philadelphia Brain Trust.
00:40:10Mike Gansey, president of the Basketball Operations,
00:40:13and Jameer Nelson, executive VP of Basketball Ops.
00:40:16Also have some history here.
00:40:17Mike Gansey, Ohio guy, was runner-up to LeBron James in the 2001 Ohio Mr. Basketball.
00:40:28And nice to see Gansey back in his home area.
00:40:34He and Jameer, I'm not sure they've coordinated their outfits tonight,
00:40:38but earth tones are in, Stan, this holiday season.
00:40:43Jalen Brown and a foul is called.
00:40:47Loose ball foul against Cleveland as Walker got pushed.
00:40:51Well, and that's what happens when you make great effort on the glasses.
00:40:56You will not only come up with second chance opportunities by grabbing the ball,
00:41:01but you force people to foul you as happened there.
00:41:04So Walker, second time already, has gotten them an extra possession.
00:41:08Tristan Anaruna is in for Cleveland.
00:41:15And Chemtavia's Caldwell Pope for Philadelphia.
00:41:18Brown gets cut off, swing it, Walker, they give him that shot, and he misses on a three ball.
00:41:26Cavaliers about to rebound it.
00:41:28The Sixers 21 to 9.
00:41:30Hezonia leaves it inside, and the crank for Mobley.
00:41:35Well, he went for the steal, got overextended.
00:41:38Hezonia took advantage, took the ball to the rim, made a nice play.
00:41:43Hezonia played four years in the FTA with Orlando, New York, and Portland.
00:41:50Hitchcock, that's a three.
00:41:52Well, Hitchcock and Jalen Brown both get poor opportunities here with the second.
00:41:58So Asonia comes back and just looks like a different person.
00:42:03Nice play by Proctor and a chance at a three-point opportunity.
00:42:12Didn't think they were going to make the call and look frustrated, but then the whistle blew.
00:42:20Hezonia played at the NBA Global Academy before going to Duke, originally from Sydney, Australia,
00:42:29and seeing more time in year number two.
00:42:32They liked him so much as a second-round pick.
00:42:34They gave him a four-year, $8.7 million deal.
00:42:40He's got some smooth skills.
00:42:42Oh, absolutely.
00:42:43A good size for a guard, always under control.
00:42:48Pay points, 22-6, Cavs.
00:42:52Caldwell Pope, defended by Mitchell, feeds it on the baseline for Walker.
00:42:59Shot clock is down to two.
00:43:01Hitchcock has to put it up, side of the rim.
00:43:08It's a 13-point lead for the Cavaliers.
00:43:12Mitchell penetrates, gets his man in the air,
00:43:16and a foul is called.
00:43:18Jalen Brown was on the back side.
00:43:23I just like the aggressiveness of Donovan Mitchell tonight.
00:43:27This guy's one of the most dynamic offensive players in the league.
00:43:32Seventh leading scorer a year ago.
00:43:34He's down about over five points a game this year by just trying to create for everybody else.
00:43:42Proctor's pass was nearly taken away.
00:43:45Hazonia sticks it from long range.
00:43:49Mario Hazonia has given Cleveland its largest lead.
00:43:54He didn't shoot 36% on the season for three.
00:43:58Missed his first couple tonight.
00:44:00A career 32% three-point shooter.
00:44:03Caldwell Pope answers with a triple.
00:44:07Caldwell Pope trying to become the fifth player in NBA history to win championships with three different teams.
00:44:14Hazonia again.
00:44:18Mario Hazonia with a long distance bucket.
00:44:25Over the last three games he's averaged almost 11 points and nine rebounds a game.
00:44:30Edgecombe rises up with that fallaway jumper.
00:44:35The Cavs are four of four in the second quarter.
00:44:40Mitchell, no look to Mobley.
00:44:44Razzle-dazzle from Donovan Mitchell and Mobley gets another easy bucket on the interior.
00:44:50That's five assists for Mitchell to go with his 10 points.
00:44:53This is probably exactly the balance that Kenny Atkinson was wanting to see.
00:44:59And the lead is back to 16.
00:45:02Edgecombe feed for Brown.
00:45:04Timer down to five against Anaruma.
00:45:07Brown, the pirouette, and a deuce.
00:45:14Jalen Brown is coming off a 30.7 rebound performance in the 112-106 win in Detroit on Wednesday night.
00:45:21Mitchell contorted his body.
00:45:23It gets back to him, but he couldn't finish it.
00:45:28Brown's great in transition.
00:45:31Trying to force his way in.
00:45:32Mitchell tried to take it away.
00:45:35And a tie-up.
00:45:39Mitchell does a great job here.
00:45:41Has Brown on his back.
00:45:43Walker has to play two.
00:45:45Just gets the ball up in the air where Mobley can go get it.
00:45:52Mitchell here, Jalen Brown.
00:45:55Very dangerous in transition, but just gets his hand on the ball.
00:46:01Mitchell's got to jump here, but I don't know where he's going.
00:46:05Yeah, Donovan Mitchell was ready to go to the bench, but the tie-up means he has to remain in
00:46:10there.
00:46:11So, Malik Thomas has to wait until the next dead ball.
00:46:17Bryant back in for Cleveland.
00:46:20LeBron James returns for Philly.
00:46:23James Harden is back on the floor for the Cavaliers.
00:46:288-17 March, second quarter.
00:46:31Cavaliers lead the Sixers by 14.
00:46:34Philadelphia already 1-0 in Emirates NBA Cup play.
00:46:37This is Cleveland's first NBA Cup game.
00:46:45The lineups for the jump balls are always fun, isn't it?
00:46:49Everybody's pushing around.
00:46:51There's jockeying.
00:46:52Yes, just line up and let's throw the ball up.
00:46:55Come on.
00:46:55Stan Van Gundy wants everyone to just line up enough.
00:47:02And the Sixers control.
00:47:05Brown over Mitchell for two.
00:47:07The Brown's getting going now as he gets some opportunities.
00:47:11What he did last year to carry that Boston team to 56 wins was incredible.
00:47:17Hey! On the finger last!
00:47:19And Philadelphia touched it last.
00:47:21Mitchell is now going to head to the bench, replaced by Thomas.
00:47:26The way, Thomas.
00:47:28Cleveland comes in averaging 42 three-point attempts per game.
00:47:36That would be the most in franchise history if they keep up that pace.
00:47:39Well, and they're right on that pace tonight.
00:47:42Exactly on that pace tonight for a third of the game.
00:47:45Both teams have shot it well in this second quarter.
00:47:48Five of seven.
00:47:49Hazonia is human.
00:47:54Heads come up the floor in a hurry.
00:47:57Heads come up the spin and a slight fade away.
00:48:03They got a lot of guys who can, who can score on this team.
00:48:08As Dirk Nowitzki said in the studio.
00:48:10If they're healthy, they're going to be there come playoff time and be a hard out for anybody.
00:48:15Nine points now for Vijay Edgecombe.
00:48:19Hazonia on the spin and bucket.
00:48:22It's been a factor.
00:48:23Well, I guess.
00:48:24I mean, this guy is in double figures now.
00:48:27Ty and Donovan Mitchell for the lead.
00:48:29He was the MVP of the Spanish ACB last year.
00:48:33Arguably the second-best league in the world.
00:48:36Edgecombe splashes in a three.
00:48:39And Kenny Atkinson has seen it up.
00:48:41A lot of offense from Vijay Edgecombe.
00:48:45Sixers trying to chip away at this Cavaliers.
00:48:48Two big things, way through the hits, and we've got to chase the ball better.
00:48:54We've got to chase the ball better, man.
00:48:56They're out running us on everything they're shooting down there.
00:48:59Okay?
00:49:00Oh, yeah.
00:49:00Stare down blockouts, chase the ball better.
00:49:02Play through the physicality down there.
00:49:04We can't give them the ball.
00:49:06If they hit us, we've got to score anyway.
00:49:08It'll make us do the pass out.
00:49:10Our prime access, Nick Nurse, is four years the head man with Philadelphia.
00:49:17Five years as the head coach in Toronto, including an NBA championship.
00:49:21Harden comes up short.
00:49:23He was looking for a call.
00:49:24Leak out.
00:49:24Walker uncontested for the flush.
00:49:27This happens consistently in the NBA.
00:49:30The jump shot is taken from the top.
00:49:33No one on the wing rotates back with the balls in the air.
00:49:38And the guy who contests the shot gets a run out, as Jabari Walker did there.
00:49:43Philadelphia has made its last seven shots.
00:49:47An 11-2 run to cut it to seven.
00:49:50Merrill, ball fake.
00:49:51Two-man game with Harden.
00:49:53Harden trying to take it around Walker.
00:49:56Shot clock is winding down.
00:49:58Watson trying to make it happen with LeBron James.
00:50:00Watson's baseline delivery.
00:50:02No.
00:50:02Rebound.
00:50:03Bryant.
00:50:03Offensive board.
00:50:04And a foul is called.
00:50:06And that's our ninth offensive rebound.
00:50:08It's what Nick Nurse was talking about in the huddle.
00:50:11Nine offensive rebounds for Cleveland.
00:50:14Only 11 defensive rebounds for Philadelphia.
00:50:18And Philly had came into the game as the ninth best defensive rebounding team in the league.
00:50:23But look, Cleveland right now dominating in the paint and on the glass.
00:50:30Tonight's Fit Check is presented by Lexus.
00:50:33Luka Doncic, leading scorer in the NBA, second half of our double banger on Prime.
00:50:40Portland and the Lakers.
00:50:43Kevin Harlan, Jim Jackson, Allie Clifton.
00:50:45They've got you covered.
00:50:46Coming up here on Prime.
00:50:50West Group C standings.
00:50:52Lakers have already taken a loss.
00:50:56Golden State beat them by 17.
00:50:57Yeah, that's a big one.
00:50:59As we know, the point differential becomes very, very important.
00:51:03Because we're always getting down to tiebreakers.
00:51:0776 from Ken Cavaliers tonight.
00:51:09Just under six minutes to go in this first half.
00:51:13Maxie Jab, jumper, no.
00:51:17Rebounded by Hart.
00:51:18And the Cavs have numbers.
00:51:21Intercepted by Edgecombe.
00:51:23Philadelphia running.
00:51:24Three on three.
00:51:25Deflected there by Merrill.
00:51:27Break opportunity.
00:51:28Watson, stripped of the ball for a moment.
00:51:31Bounces for Bryant.
00:51:32Couldn't put it down.
00:51:35Sixers in transition.
00:51:37James like a locomotive.
00:51:39Baker, no.
00:51:40And cleared by Bryant.
00:51:42We have a lot of activity with very little to show for in here.
00:51:46And another turnover.
00:51:47Edgecombe cruises in for the jam.
00:51:53That was wild right there.
00:51:56The sequence eventually ends with an Edgecombe dunk.
00:52:02But took a while to get there.
00:52:0512 points in the second quarter for DJ Edgecombe.
00:52:09Harden lines it up.
00:52:11He's fouled three-point territory by Cantabious Caldwell-Pope.
00:52:16And Harden remains on the floor for an extended period.
00:52:20And they're going to go check it for a reckless close and a flagrant foul as we see Edgecombe
00:52:26finally finish off a chaotic series of plays.
00:52:33So they're going to look down low on the landing area for James Harden.
00:52:40And if Caldwell-Pope got into his space, it's the 14 foul against Philadelphia.
00:52:50And it was a problem the other night for them in Detroit.
00:52:55Detroit was trying to come back from 18 down.
00:52:59And they fouled Duncan Robinson on two threes late in the game.
00:53:03And they're going to go check it out.
00:53:04What do you think?
00:53:07Well, it's definitely a foul.
00:53:09I get that.
00:53:11And he does land on his foot.
00:53:12They usually caught.
00:53:14He sticks that foot forward.
00:53:15Yeah, they're going to call that a reckless close.
00:53:17And we're going to get a flagrant one out of that.
00:53:22James Harden is going to head to the free throw line.
00:53:25Now it's just a matter of the officials determining if it rises to the flagrant status.
00:53:34So you've got Kevin Scott, Pat O'Connell on headset.
00:53:37JB DeRosa is like a bouncer.
00:53:39He's protecting the area.
00:53:41He is.
00:53:41Yes, he is.
00:53:42Yep.
00:53:42Now they'll include him.
00:53:44They're going to change spots.
00:53:46Oh, they're going to switch spots.
00:53:47So Pat now is the muscle.
00:53:48He is.
00:53:49I don't know.
00:53:50JB looks a little bigger.
00:53:51But Pat does look like he could hold his own.
00:53:54No, Pat's working out.
00:53:55Yeah.
00:53:56It's going to be a flagrant one, as you mentioned, Stan.
00:54:00And look, it's a frustrating one for players because certainly there's no intent there.
00:54:05But I think that was a good change by the league a few years back to protect shooters
00:54:12because that's one that has a great potential for injury.
00:54:15Sure.
00:54:15And look, Contavious Caldwell-Pulp is a 13-year veteran.
00:54:18He's been around this league a long time.
00:54:20He's an excellent defender.
00:54:21And maybe, by the way, when he broke into the league, that was allowed?
00:54:23Yeah.
00:54:24At some point, you determine it's not.
00:54:27The defender recklessly closes out with an extended leg, makes direct foot-to-foot contact
00:54:31with a high potential for injury.
00:54:33Therefore, it meets a criteria for unnecessary flag or foul penalty one.
00:54:36It'll be three shots.
00:54:38Clayton will inbound with 24 and a shot clock.
00:54:41I mean, basically, Ian, we can refer to that as the Zaza Pachulia rule.
00:54:46Are we ready to just deem it as such?
00:54:48I think he deserves his credit on that.
00:54:52Zaza Pachulia, NBA veteran.
00:54:56He was tough.
00:54:59Oh, to say the least.
00:55:04So, Harden's going to the free-throw line.
00:55:07Great free-throw shooter and a guy who has a guard who's gotten to the line over the course
00:55:12of his career about as much as anybody.
00:55:14Harden, 86% shooter.
00:55:18In fact, if you want to start looking at most free-throws made in NBA history,
00:55:24James Harden is third behind Malone and LeBron James.
00:55:30Not bad.
00:55:33Another one here for Harden, the 37-year-old Los Angeles native.
00:55:3911-time All-Star.
00:55:42And the MVP of the NBA in 2018.
00:55:46Another guy that Herb Sindak produced out of college.
00:55:53That's right.
00:55:53Arizona State and him goes to Santa Clara and produces Jalen Williams and Brandon
00:55:59Kojemski, very underrated coach.
00:56:03Sam Merrill is off the mark.
00:56:07The Cleveland lead is eight.
00:56:10Maxey against the former Nugget Watson.
00:56:13Now it's James with the rookie Thomas.
00:56:18And Thomas takes it away.
00:56:20Just great defense.
00:56:21Watson angles in.
00:56:23Blocked by James.
00:56:24The follow goes, but they're going to count it on a goaltend.
00:56:36That was great defense by Luke Thomas.
00:56:43Feed the post.
00:56:45The lead is back to double figures for Cleveland.
00:56:47Indeed, and it knocked around like a pinball.
00:56:50Turns, double team is there.
00:56:53Diagonal, corner.
00:56:54Oh, BJ Edgecombe is feeling it.
00:56:59That's his third three.
00:57:0017 points for Edgecombe, the only sixer in double figures.
00:57:06He has done that in 12 minutes of action.
00:57:09This starting five is undefeated this season.
00:57:14They are five and 0 for Philadelphia.
00:57:18Merrill, well short, trying to dig it out.
00:57:21Caldwell Pope.
00:57:22And a foul is called on Watson at midcourt.
00:57:26And they're calling that a transition tape foul.
00:57:30Payton Watson confused.
00:57:32I think he was legitimately trying to get a steal there.
00:57:36They call it the transition tape foul.
00:57:43BJ Edgecombe, three of four from three-point territory.
00:57:46Seven of eight overall.
00:57:47So Maxey goes to the free throw line.
00:57:53He's an 87% career shooter.
00:57:55Philadelphia is up to 71% shooting in the second quarter.
00:57:59After shooting just 29% in the first.
00:58:08Dean Wade got a good hand from this crowd when he checked into the game.
00:58:14After his years of service for the Cavaliers.
00:58:16And he's back in for Philly.
00:58:19Part of some very successful teams here.
00:58:24Edgecombe draws attention.
00:58:28Tend to shoot.
00:58:31Edgecombe.
00:58:33Short.
00:58:35And a rebound of Mitchell.
00:58:37Leak out Merrill.
00:58:39Harden can't hit the three.
00:58:41Edgecombe loops it ahead.
00:58:43Two on one developing.
00:58:44Maxey's going to do it.
00:58:46Inside with a pass to Brown for two.
00:58:51Great fast break.
00:58:52That Philly when they can defend and get out in transition.
00:58:56That's when they're at their best.
00:58:57And then in the fourth quarter they figure it out in half.
00:59:01Mobley no.
00:59:03Again and he's fouled.
00:59:06Free throws coming up for sixth year pro Evan Mobley.
00:59:10When we come back you're watching the Emirates NBA Cup.
00:59:13With coverage on Prime presented by Wingstop.
00:59:20It's the NBA on Prime live from Cleveland.
00:59:24Where the Cavaliers are hosting the Philadelphia 76ers.
00:59:27Time right now for Hardwood Heroes presented by FanDuel.
00:59:31Donovan Mitchell got off to the hot start.
00:59:33He's got ten points, five rebounds, five assists.
00:59:37For Philadelphia V.J. Edgecombe.
00:59:4015 in the quarter.
00:59:4217 overall to lead Philly.
00:59:46Sixers trail the Cavs by four.
00:59:50Philly's gotten right back into this game.
00:59:53Only 20 points in the second quarter.
00:59:56For Philly.
00:59:57I mean for Cleveland.
00:59:59And look it's interesting with Philly.
01:00:01They got him beat healthy.
01:00:02They went out and got Jalen Brown and LeBron James.
01:00:06And their offense.
01:00:07I know it's early in the season.
01:00:09But their offense has actually gotten worse.
01:00:11But they have been a great defensive team.
01:00:15Second best in the league at the start of the season.
01:00:18And their half court defense is just outstanding.
01:00:21If you don't get them in transition.
01:00:24They're going to make it very very difficult to score.
01:00:27They've been unbeatable in clutch games.
01:00:30Cleveland in his own.
01:00:32And beat the back in on Harden.
01:00:35He turns, fires, short, and a foul is called.
01:00:40Late whistle.
01:00:41And beat was staring at J.B. DeRozan.
01:00:45Got the call.
01:00:47But I think they got the call right.
01:00:48I think what the fans and even teams react to.
01:00:52Yeah, it gets him right on the wrist.
01:00:54But I think what people react to is when the call is a little bit late.
01:00:58And so they think it's Joel's complaining that got him the call.
01:01:03He got hit.
01:01:05He got hit.
01:01:06Which is not a good foul.
01:01:07Look, he's 0 for 7 tonight.
01:01:08And I said it earlier.
01:01:10He has got the third worst effective field goal percentage in the league here in the early season.
01:01:16He's not making shots, but he's a great free throw shooter.
01:01:21You cannot send him to the line.
01:01:24The other problem when you send Joel Embiid to the line is he gets to rest.
01:01:30Correct.
01:01:30And they get to get their defense set.
01:01:33And we said it.
01:01:33Their half-court defense is outstanding.
01:01:36And you want to keep this game moving if you're the Cleveland Cavaliers.
01:01:39Philadelphia led the Pistons by as many as 18 the other night.
01:01:44Still held on for the win by 6.
01:01:49Three-point game.
