Surfers prepare to take on Nazaré's giant waves

Big-wave surfers gathered in Nazaré on Wednesday (November 4) to train for upcoming giant winter swells, combining breath-holding exercises, pool drills and yoga sessions as they prepare for one of surfing's most demanding environments.

Nazaré's waves are powered by an underwater canyon that amplifies Atlantic Ocean swells, drawing elite surfers from around the world, including Britain's Andrew Cotton, who said learning to embrace discomfort and using fear as a motivation help athletes cope with the ocean's unpredictability.
