00:02Fronting media for the second time in a week, the NT's top cop addressing news of a second
00:08top-end teenager being charged with a terrorism related offence.
00:13It is deeply concerning and frankly disappointing that another young person has allegedly become
00:19involved in matters of this nature.
00:21Last week a teenage boy was arrested following an investigation by Australia's joint counter-terrorism
00:28team. That same investigation leading to the arrest of a teenage girl yesterday. Following a raid on a
00:35home where items were seized, the young person was charged with collecting or making documents
00:40likely to facilitate terrorist acts.
00:43It will be alleged an examination, initial examination of those items and online discussions
00:48related to terrorism related acts with a mixed ideological motivation including the glorification
00:55of a mass casualty attack on a school.
00:57The young girl appeared before a youth justice court this morning. Her lawyer requested her
01:02client be assessed for electronic monitoring and asked for the case to be adjourned for a bail
01:08hearing later this month.
01:09The judge said the allegations were pretty serious and referenced messages, some of which he described
01:15as being extremely concerning. The girl was remanded with her case to return to court for a bail
01:22hearing in coming weeks. Police today reiterated concerns about the rise of radicalisation of young
01:28people through online platforms.
01:31Many young people want answers to contentious and polarising issues and instead of asking teachers or
01:35parents they go online and are asking social media. Tragically this can often see them siphoned off into sites
01:42that peddle mis and disinformation.
01:44The police commissioner urging parents and the community to be alert but not alarmed.
01:49Rest assured that we will continue to thoroughly investigate and take action swiftly whenever required.
