00:02Democrats have secured a series of early victories in the closely watched U.S. midterm elections.
00:07The party flipped key seats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
00:12Meanwhile, Keisha lands Bottoms' victory in Georgia's governor's race
00:15has further highlighted the challenges facing the Republican Party.
00:20Bottoms brings an end to over two decades of Republican rule in the state.
00:24She also marks history as the nation's first black woman governor.
00:29As for Republican victories, Trump backed Byron Donalds won the governor's race,
00:34becoming the state's first black governor, while Republican Ashley Moody retained a U.S. Senate seat.
00:40The highly anticipated midterm elections were widely seen as a referendum on U.S. President Donald Trump's second term.
00:48His approval rating has fallen to a low point in his second term over public discontent
00:52over his domestic decisions, the country's economy and the war in Iran.
00:59The prospect of EU enlargement looked closer than at any point in the past decade
01:04at the Euronews enlargement summit in Brussels.
01:07But political disputes and disagreements over membership terms continue to stand in the way.
01:12Here are five key takeaways.
01:14First, Armenia and Georgia are moving in opposite directions.
01:17Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said applying for EU membership in 2027 or 2028 was realistic.
01:24When you are a democratic country, you want to be in a democratic club.
01:29Next year can be realistic.
01:332028 can be realistic.
01:35But you know, now we are focused on visa liberalization dialogue.
01:40Georgia's accession process, however, has been stalled since 2024 over controversial laws on foreign influence and family values.
01:47Prime Minister Irakli Kobakitse offered no clear plan to restart negotiations and said his government would not repeal the laws.
01:54European Commission was using the candidate status issue at the first stage and then the accession talks issue at the
02:03second stage to blackmail Georgia, to blackmail the Georgian society.
02:08Second, Montenegro remains at the front of the accession race, aiming to join by 2028.
02:15But European Affairs Minister Maida Gorcevic rejected the idea of second-class membership after the European Commission proposed safeguards for
02:23new members, including a possible 15-year probation period.
02:27Croatia's Prime Minister Andrzej Flankovic also warned that the upcoming French election could derail enlargement.
02:34Third, Albania is pushing to conclude its EU negotiations by the end of 2027.
02:40When asked how the membership would affect the country's controversial deal with Italy to transfer irregular migrants to deportation camps,
02:48Prime Minister Edi Rama said the deal will stay for as long as need be, promising to keep it in
02:53force as long as Georgia Meloni remains in power.
02:57North Macedonia, meanwhile, remains blocked by a dispute with Bulgaria, which is demanding constitutional changes to recognize the country's Bulgarian
03:05minority.
03:07Fourth, Ukraine rejected permanent restrictions on its agricultural exports after joining the EU.
03:12Prime Minister Sergei Koretsky said any temporary measures must address specific risks and include clear review and exit conditions.
03:20Kiev wants to start closing negotiation chapters in the first half of 2027.
03:27And fifth, Moldova is emerging as one of the fastest-moving candidates.
03:32Prime Minister Vasilya Tofan argued that progress towards EU membership by Ukraine and Moldova would benefit both countries.
03:46Armenia's Prime Minister has said the country may look to apply to join the EU by 2027 or 2028, framing
03:54the move as a choice between Brussels and Russia's Eurasian bloc.
03:57Next year may be realistic, 2028 can be realistic.
04:03We started the process of, started the process which will bring us to the final decision to submit application for
04:14full membership of the European Union.
04:17For Pashinyan, EU membership is a strategic choice to protect Armenia's democracy after the 2018 revolution that ousted pro-Russian
04:26politicians from power.
04:28Following Russian threats of retaliation, notably by cutting off Armenia's energy supply, Pashinyan said his government aims to diversify its
04:37political and economic relations.
04:39Our goal is to level up, to develop our independence. And that is a legitimate goal. Nobody could accuse Armenia
04:51for aspiration to be more independent, more sovereign, more integrated country.
05:04He added, the choice will ultimately be for the Armenian people to make.
05:15Iran's parliament speaker, Mohamed Bager, Ghalibaf, warned on Tuesday that any US strategic error would open a new battlefield in
05:24the war, hours after a US Air Force jet struck an Iranian missile system on Kashm Island.
05:31Ghalibaf told Iran was at its highest level of defensive readiness and that responsibility for preventing further escalation rested with
05:40Washington.
05:41The ball is in America's court to prevent war, he said.
05:45The remarks came after residents in Kashm Island, Engam and Banbal Abbas reported successive explosions and tremors overnight, according to
05:54Iranian news agency IRNA and FOS.
05:59US media outlets reported that a US Air Force jet had struck an Iranian surface-to-air missile launch system
06:06on the island after a missile had been fired from Kashm at a US aircraft in the Strait of Hormuz.
06:13Qatar said on Tuesday it's a hope for an interim deal as mediators continue to exchange proposals, despite fresh US
06:20strikes and threats to shipping through Hormuz continue to complicate efforts to end the Iran war.
06:32The police have dismantled a protestant camp in Madrid more than a month after it was set up to protest
06:38the country's housing crisis.
06:41334 people were removed and two arrested, authorities said.
06:45They added the eviction of the Puerta del Sol camp to place without incident or episodes of violence.
06:51Meanwhile, protest organizers called it in a post on Telegram a violent police operation that left several people injured.
06:59The camp sprang up following the police eviction of 87-year-old Marie Carmen Abascal from her lifelong Madrid home
07:06after a real estate company that owned the apartment drastically raised the rent.
07:12She was hospitalized after her eviction and later died on the 7th of October.
07:16Her eviction sparked nationwide protests against housing costs and the lack of tenant protections, with tens of thousands of demonstrators
07:25hitting the streets.
07:33Spain marks a further step in protecting women's health at work.
07:38Madrid has approved a reform allowing women from December 1st who suffer from incapacitating health problems linked to the menopause
07:46to request a specific medical leave and receive a benefit from the second day.
07:51One of the first news is two new special situations of temporal incapacity.
07:57First of all, for women who suffer from incapacitating diseases related to the menopause and for workers victims of gender
08:05violence, whose injuries prevent them to work.
08:10A doctor will have to diagnose a condition associated with a secondary menopausal disorder that temporarily prevents the woman from
08:19carrying out her job.
08:20The government believes this measure will help address health problems that for years have received little attention in the workplace.
08:28Symptoms that women going through menopause may experience daily can include severe hot flushes, sleeping problems, fatigue or difficulty concentrating.
08:43Eurozone countries have until Friday to put forward candidates to succeed Christine Lagarde as president of the European Central Bank.
08:52The bloc's finance ministers will review the names at a meeting on November 9th, a spokesperson for the Europe Group
08:59told Euronews.
09:00A candidate will need the backing of at least 16 of the 21 Eurozone countries representing at least 65%
09:08of the bloc's population.
09:10EU leaders then make the final call.
09:13Lagarde announced last week that she was cutting her eight-year term short by almost nine months.
09:19She said that leaving would give her the freedom to speak out beyond monetary policy.
09:24Rumors throughout the year have linked her timing to the elections in France.
09:29As an early exit gives French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz a say over who replaces her,
09:37while the far-right polls strongly ahead of the April vote.
09:41The two names leading the race for the ECB top job are Pablo Hernandez de Cos, General Manager of the
09:48Bank for International Settlements,
09:49and former Governor of the Bank of Spain from 2018 to 2024.
09:54And Kalash Knott, who led the Dutch Central Bank for 14 years until 2025.
10:07Global travel is forecast to reach a record 1.57 billion international overnight arrivals in 2026,
10:15with Europe's arrivals expected to rise by 5% as travellers increasingly choose destinations closer to home.
10:23Despite conflict, higher airfares and cost-of-living constraints, international arrivals worldwide are set to increase by 2% compared
10:31with 2025,
10:33according to the WTM Global Travel Report 2026.
10:37Europe's projected 5% increase in international overnight arrivals in 2026 puts its growth ahead of the global average,
10:45with the WTM report identifying the region as a particular beneficiary of changing travel patterns and trends.
10:53Worldwide, trips within the same region are forecast to rise by 3% in 2026,
10:59while inter-regional journeys including long-haul travel declined by 3%.
11:03Looking further ahead, Europe is expected to record the largest absolute increase in international arrivals of any region.
11:11Annual arrivals are forecast to rise by 226 million between 2026 and 2032, with average growth of around 4%
11:21a year.
11:22International visitors account for around a third of Europe's leisure spending,
11:27the highest share among the three largest regional markets, which include Europe, Asia and North America.
