00:07The Ebola outbreak spreading across seven provinces in the Democratic Republic of Congo
00:13is threatening the education of children in some of the country's most affected areas.
00:19The Norwegian Refugee Council says schools are struggling with inadequate hygiene facilities
00:25and limited support for children dealing with fear and anxiety.
00:29The Ebola outbreak is a crisis within a crisis.
00:33The education of some of the children has been disrupted already for several months in
00:38some of the regions, either because of the conflict or because of the displacements.
00:45So right now in the areas affected by the Ebola outbreak, we have approximately 5,700 schools
00:53in which we don't have enough measures put in place to ensure that the schools are being
01:01a safe place for the children.
01:03In Ituri province, the epicenter of the outbreak, some schools are reporting low student attendance.
01:09Some parents are keeping their children at home because they fear they could contract Ebola at school.
01:16Aid agencies are working with schools to ease those fears and help children return to the classroom.
01:23NRC in the different schools has a program called Better Learning Program, which is here to support the children with
01:31some anxiety and stress relief activities
01:35to make sure that our colleagues are hearing the children's concerns and they can respond to them to make sure
01:43that they feel safe enough to come to school and to continue with their education.
01:48But misinformation about Ebola and insecurity are making it harder for aid agencies to reach affected communities.
01:56The DRC government says it's working with international partners to address those challenges and strengthen the health care system.
02:05Our health care system was already fragile to begin with, so the idea is now to strengthen the entire system
02:13by establishing sustainable
02:15mechanisms as part of our efforts to achieve universal health coverage.
02:19The outbreak in the DRC is caused by the rare Bundibujo virus, a form of Ebola for which there is
02:27currently no approved vaccine.
02:29Treatment includes supportive care and managing symptoms such as fever, headache and diarrhea.
02:35Treatment syndication, a form of COVID-19 to to the allowing concern on fireари.
02:35Here we go.
