Deep space is flooded with lethal cosmic rays blasted from exploding stars across our galaxy. Without protection, this continuous barrage of high energy particles would strip away planetary atmospheres and sterilize living tissue.

Fortunately, our Sun creates a colossal protective bubble known as the heliosphere. Generated by the solar wind, this vast magnetic shield stretches billions of miles past Pluto, absorbing or deflecting the vast majority of interstellar radiation before it reaches the inner planets.

In 2012, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft became the first human made object to cross the outer boundary called the heliopause. Sensors recorded an immediate, dramatic spike in interstellar cosmic radiation, confirming just how vital this solar bubble is for our survival.

Without this invisible cosmic force field constantly pushing back against the galaxy, life on Earth simply could not exist. Our entire solar system travels through space inside a protective cocoon.
