00:03welcome everybody to Durban it is the first test match day number one the first test match of three
00:12between South Africa world test champions and Australia there's their captain Timber Bavuma
00:21who's done particularly well in the job lost the toss today and that's only the second time is ever
00:27had that happen the other time was against Sri Lanka and 24 25 a look at the two teams that
00:32have
00:33been selected today batting first Australia Travis head and it says there that Nick Maddinson's up at
00:39the top but expectation is that it might be wrench or who's at the top it'll all be revealed in
00:44just
00:44a little bit mana slumber Shane short of runs Steve Smith stalwart of the batting lineup and then Alex
00:51Carey Bo Webster as all-rounders with Pat Cummins as well looking contribute with bat as is the case
00:58with Mitchell start but in the side as bowlers Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazelwood they make a fantastic
01:04quartet and have served Australia so well for South Africa it is he saw Robada who is not there and
01:11in
01:12comes an Rick nor care and he hasn't played test match cricket for some time in fact you'd go back
01:17to him visiting Australia and doing so well on their shores off it goes to the fence leg buys for
01:31four
01:31to start things off helped onto that leg side and away for four Travis head off the mark
01:50big shout huge from Mulder and straightaway Kettleboro walks away from the stumps there were two sounds
02:00though the signaling that the two sounds I don't know but I think I would send this I mean I
02:04know
02:05from the initial look I think he would have hit his pad but I think this is a really really
02:09good show
02:10it's hard not to go up another look at that LBW shout it pitches on and it is stone dead
02:19oh dear
02:26even though it was in the air for a time it'll be runs for head in Australia
02:36has it come off the bat South Africa we're very very confident a long discussion results in the
02:47opportunity to go to the third umpire Richard Kettleboro signals let's go upstairs
03:00you have to go back to Richard on field to reverse his decision
03:07Richard Kettleboro has to reverse his decision and Vian Mulder has a massive wicket that of Travis
03:13his head his opening partner is yet to get off the mark
03:21you'll feel a little bit better about that well
03:23well that was a gift for Mulder
03:34searching for that first run back it won't be the fairy tale first innings for Nick Maddenson
03:40it'll be South Africa now on top and a disappointing end to Maddenson
03:52played beautiful proper test match batting
03:59great signs for one's level Shane lovely shot
04:05oh that's safe just whoa the extra bounce did him definitely that extra bounce
04:21Smith advances real aggression gets a good pace of it and clears the lots momentum for
04:27the tourists yeah they understand the importance of guess of my rods throws everything at it
04:37didn't really get to the pitch of it but clears the lots of Smith trying to get some momentum a
04:42couple of sixes as the over is completed 52 for two
04:53worked fine and a smattering of applause that the runs just start to come for the Australians
05:03one of the pads Marnas likes it there whips it away backward of square too much work to be done
05:08and
05:08another boundary to finish the over a couple from it 67 for two
05:16thick outside edge Australians looking to attack the spin would have gone straight to second who
05:21wasn't there fast downfield another boundary streaky looking to put pressure on cash again
05:35well worth a shout big shout gets him final ball of the session can you believe it
05:42Marnas knows he's got a massive problem yeah this is a brilliant spell from Vian Mulder
05:50okay
05:53impact is umpire's call wickets is hitting go back to Richard on field to stay with his original decision
06:01of out they're on screen now they signal Vian Mulder a massive blow Marnas trudges off
06:09he will be extremely disappointed I don't think the bunny chow will go down that well
06:15South Africa fight back late 84 for three
06:20yeah it's great reward for some excellent bowling by South African seamers
06:25Vian Mulder being rewarded on the stroke of lance
06:29yeah they know what a big wicket that is South Africa just uplift the mood again after an excellent
06:34partnership
06:36it's Australia heading to the lance at 84 for three
06:40welcome everybody to the second session of play we can't call it we can now we can just call it
06:45the afternoon
06:46session of play because we've begun so early 9 30 here this morning so uh 10 past midday
06:53now local time and it's just about gone South Africa's way had Marnas Lubbershain not got out the last ball
07:03right on the stroke of lunch the last ball before lunch then you might have given the morning to the
07:07Australians
07:16what a breakthrough straight after the break
07:20two massive blows here for South Africa last delivery before the lunch break
07:24Lover Shane on his way just the third delivery after lunch and the mainstay Steve Smith is on his
07:31his way it's the angle
07:37four runs
07:39that's a good example of the morning with the inconsistency that Marco Jansen had
07:49nicely driven down the ground he's a punchy style of cricket Alex Kerr he's always compact it's a confident on
07:54drive
07:59both these players will look to sweep Renshaw and especially Kerry will sweep either side of the wicket
08:04that's exactly the way they start positive
08:15wide and Kerry flashes at it
08:18oh love it love it is it an opportunity if he sees one he'll go at it
08:24but essentially this is what it's about
08:31Zalabrika on top at the moment
08:34Anrich Nurkir has been asking questions from around the wicket with a shorter balls and the pace as well
08:40and now over the wicket gets the edge
08:43yeah reward for some excellent bowling from Anrich Nurkir
08:47he's been bowling with some good heat
08:53moved well across these stumps
08:56looking lakeside times it nicely
09:06again moves across these stumps
09:08and a little snick it is as Anrich Nurkir gets it outside the off stump
09:13South Africa are convinced
09:17only have one review left but they feel it's worth it
09:25I've got a spike with the ball on the edge of the back
09:29and we'll go back on field to Richard to reverse your decision
09:35the speedster is back
09:36Eimrich Nurkir after three years of not playing test cricket is back
09:46that's not the greatest delivery
09:47of all the deliveries you've seen from Marco Janssen today
09:50you won't want to see that one again
09:52it's a bit of a gift for Enshor
09:59first time that he's been short and wide and a lovely stroke from Pat Cummins
10:04who just eased it into that fast space
10:08square of the wicket on the offside
10:20that's the end of the session
10:23going to T Australia 149 for six
10:27well a competitive afternoon because really Renshaw kind of dug in
10:34and turned it into a fight
10:36I bet South Africa will be very pleased with that scoreline
10:38they've got six down
10:41they dominated the play straight after lunch
10:44where they were accurate and threatening
10:48Nurkir has been a joy really to see him run in and bowl quickly and well
10:53Vian Mulder with the new ball impressive
10:56because it's not a role he'd normally have
10:58five frontline seamers unavailable to South Africa right now
11:05so a session another one the second one of the day that is in favour of South Africa
11:10which gives them the overall control of the match at the moment
11:15welcome back everybody to Kingsmeade here in Durban
11:19where South Africa have Australia as their visitors
11:24and it is Australia who won the toss and decided that they would bat first
11:29149 for six is where they find themselves at tee time
11:38oh shot
11:39through the hands at it
11:42ever so slightly wide
11:51lovely
11:53just over pitched
11:54and Cummins can wield the willow
11:57and he puts that away beautifully for four
12:01and he puts it in the ball
12:02and he puts it in the ball
12:04and he puts it in the ball
12:07and he puts it in the ball
12:08and he puts it in the ball
12:09and he puts it in the ball
12:10and he puts it in the ball
12:11and he puts it in the ball
12:12and he puts it in the ball
12:13and he puts it in the ball
12:15and he puts it in the ball
12:17and he puts it in the ball
12:17and he puts it in the ball
12:18and he puts it in the ball
12:19and he puts it in the ball
12:19and he puts it in the ball
12:20and he puts it in the ball
12:20and he puts it in the ball
12:21and he puts it in the ball
12:22and he puts it in the ball
12:23and he puts it in the ball
12:24and he puts it in the ball
12:34and I just got him just jumping around a little bit this pace is up and the aggression is there
12:39from Nokia but again a boundary for Cummins how valuable will this be
12:46which spoke a little earlier about clouds moving in and it's at that stage of the afternoon where
12:52the umpires are gonna perhaps have a look at the light meter perhaps the betters are feeling the
12:59heat from under Nokia little difficult to pick up the ball out of the hand like you said a little
13:06earlier Kaya does get quite dark out here quite quickly but yeah I think the umpires can take the
13:12players off a bad light nobody wants to see this at a cricket ground that's absolutely no offense to
13:18the ground staff because we don't want to see them obviously pulling on the covers but
13:21they are getting ready by the looks of it to pull on the covers as bad light has stopped play
13:26quite a while ago now about 25 minutes ago so sadly we are going to be losing probably quite a
13:33lot of
13:33play on day one but having bowled just 65.2 overs that is a big chunk of day one missing
13:40even though
13:41test matches generally move pretty quickly nowadays that is a big chunk of overs that we have missed
13:47possibly here on day one so not good news well the covers are starting to come on the bad light
13:54it is
13:54obviously an issue as well and it does mean that we are going to see the resumption unfortunately of
14:00play tomorrow which is sad because we have missed out on so much cricket on day one so it looks
14:08like
14:08we're going to be coming back possibly tomorrow we'll wait on updated times as well we might make
14:13up some overs in the middle session possibly and then hopefully make up as much as we can hopefully
14:18bad light doesn't either happen tomorrow or just a little bit later on in the day so we get a
14:25little
14:25bit more obviously that might be coming in tomorrow so stumps on day one it will be with australia 187
14:32for
14:32six that was hit with venom got him what a good catch
