I used to think I had to pray "properly" for God to listen. Then I read Mark 1:35.
"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."
Two details changed everything for me. First, it says "while it was still dark." Jesus didn't wait for a perfect, quiet moment. He took the first one available. Second, the night before, He had healed so many people that the whole town had gathered at His door. He was exhausted, and still He went looking for silence.
The Greek word for "solitary place" is eremos. It means a deserted, empty place, the kind of place with nothing to distract you. Jesus chose emptiness over comfort, because that's where He could hear His Father best.
It makes me think of how often I scroll before I pray. How often I give God what's left of my day instead of the first of it.
You don't need a mountain or a monastery. A corner of your room, five minutes, and an honest "Lord, I'm here" is enough.
If this touched you, take a breath right now and stay in silence for ten seconds with Him.
