In this scene from The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore confronts Bill Forbes, Caroline’s father, who is locked up in the Mystic Falls cell. Bill had been attempting to “cure” or condition Caroline out of her vampire bloodlust through psychological aversion and torture. Damon, standing up for Caroline in his own twisted way, mocks Bill’s “daddy-daughter vampire torture thing”.
Damon attempts to compel Bill to forget his memories and leave town, but the compulsion fails because Bill wears a ring infused with vervain. Following this, Damon engages Bill in a sharp philosophical debate about whether a vampire’s nature can truly be changed through sheer willpower, before ultimately feeding on him and leaving him with a warning to stay away.
