We adore a retro cat-eye (Kate Moss, you still got it), but we've pretty much run out of enthusiasm for its requisite heavy, black liner — it is almost summer, after all. So, we called in makeup artist Bethany Brill, hoping she could help us infuse some vibrancy into our favorite glam eye look.

00:05Hi, I'm Tara from Refinery29.
00:07And I'm Bethany.
00:08Today we're going to show you how to brighten up your cat eye for spring.
00:11To start, draw a line on your upper lash line from the inside corner of your eye to the
00:17outside of your eyelashes.
00:19Keep the line thin towards the inside and it can kind of thicken as you move outwards.
00:25Small strokes work best especially if you're just learning.
00:28You can slightly pull on your temple to flatten out the lid and make it easier to draw on.
00:35To get a winged effect, pull the eye taut, use the outside corner of the brow as a guide,
00:41and draw from the peak of the wing towards the lash line.
00:46Repeat on the other side.
00:48Next, draw the line along the bottom lash line, connecting the lines from the outer corner of the eye.
00:55To keep this from looking harsh, smudge it into the lashes.
00:59Once you open the eye, this gives the winged effect.
01:02This look is totally new wave and a statement all on its own.
01:05So we'll see you in a little bit later.
01:06A little bit later..
01:11You are good.
