00:00Anthony Edwards, that's the biggest one for me because I truly believed that when, like you said, when OKC had
00:07all these injury issues, and listen, San Antonio hasn't looked good, although I feel like they're going to be better,
00:12that it was Ant's MVP season.
00:15He had 47 one night. He was putting up monster numbers. That Minnesota offense was insane. They were beating these
00:24teams by 2030 with Lomelo, and then he has this knee issue that I'm kind of concerned about at this
00:32point, guys, because he had the bone bruise and the hyperextension in the left knee in the playoffs, but he
00:38also dealt with a lot of this runner's knee last year in that same knee.
00:42He was limping around to start the season, and they made the decision like, hey, we're probably still going to
00:49be a very good team when you come back, even if it's a couple months or maybe a little bit
00:52longer.
00:53If we have you fully healthy for that stretch run, we still believe in this team to go on a
00:59title run, and I think that's where they're at right now. They saw how good that this team can be,
01:04but also these lingering knee issues just concern me.
01:08John, what are your thoughts on Anthony Edwards in this? It's weird because they won't give a designation. It's not
01:13like meniscus. It's not cartilage. It's soreness.
01:17Because they probably don't know. I think they do know. They just don't want to say it.
01:22I hope it's not microfracture, first of all. Let's dive into that.
01:26Had surgery on Wednesday or Thursday, by the way, so the surgery is done.
01:31So let me say this. That was fun for a week, right?
01:35We had a great week of the NBA. See you next year.
01:39To me, I think all this can be traced back to a lot of these guys not physically being ready
01:45to start the season.
01:46I think some of these stuff, the J-Dub situation, I think that's a freak accident.
01:51That's a Paul George level, nobody saw that coming type thing.
01:55But these soft tissue injuries, the fact that Tyrese Halliburton is out again,
02:00the fact that we see this situation with Ant not properly being evaluated to start the season
02:05and then letting him go out there and go full speed.
02:07I asked the question of what were these guys doing in the offseason to get their bodies ready?
02:12We all know that the NBA is playing more possessions than probably it ever has.
02:17And for these guys to not keep their body in shape all year round, and then you try to ramp
02:22it up at camp.
02:23But we know a lot of these guys aren't going 100% at camp.
02:26But then you get in the NBA game, and you're going 100 miles an hour on your body.
02:32You're revving the Lamborghini all the way to the red line.
02:34And you're getting these injuries.
02:36And it's the high-profile players that are getting these injuries.
02:39Because on the court, those are the guys people are going at the hardest.
02:43And so I think that a lot of these injuries that we're seeing has to have a correlation to guys
02:48not preparing themselves in the offseason physically for the taxi that they're going to go into during the season.
02:54John, I talked to a former NBA player at a Clipper game, and he said exactly what you just said.
03:01And I didn't talk to him.
03:02That was his exact words, that these guys in the summer are not prepping their bodies enough.
03:08He was saying, like, we used to do two-a-days every day.
03:11Like, these guys are going in for a workout, and maybe they'll get another workout in.
03:15But it's not as hard each and every day and going into camp, going into preseason.
03:20They're using camp and preseason as their summer.
03:23And using that as the conditioning work and the five-on-fives and the contact.
03:28And that's where he thought it was an issue.
03:30Yeah, I'll tell you this.
03:32You know, like, if I were even to compare this as far as what preparation is in the world of
03:36professional wrestling.
03:37Because people work their bodies to build up a tolerance.
03:42So, like, some person who hadn't performed in such a long period of time get injured right away.
03:49The guys who never take the time off and are wrestling every week for who knows how long, no matter
03:56what.
03:56They're still in the motions.
03:57They're still moving their bodies.
03:59They're still being physically active.
04:01Those are the ones that have the longevity.
04:03And it's the same exact thing in every major sport.
04:07It's in football as well.
04:08All these, you know, ACL tears and things like that.
04:12Because in the offseason, they're resting.
04:14They're not doing the extra drills.
04:16They're not staying active when they need to remain active.
04:19Because, hey, you are a professional athlete.
04:21You need to be active in order to stay healthy.
04:24Because that's what your muscles are used to.
04:27You need to be active in order to stay healthy.
