When it comes to our lashes, our motto is generally "the longer, the better." We don't even like leaving the house without a healthy coat of mascara, even if the rest of our face is bare. But how far are we willing to go? There's one line that our beauty production assistant, Gabrielle, had yet to cross: faux lashes. When it comes to adding lashes, she had some well-warranted concerns. What if it looks cheesy? Can you feel them sitting on your lid? And, what about the fact that it involves applying glue to such a sensitive area?

00:10Today I'm facing my fear of fake eyelashes, it's really terrifying.
00:15I think faux lashes are a great way to elevate any look to make a look more polished or more
00:20elegant and I would love to show you a few easy steps that you can do even every day
00:25to make faux lashes a part of your makeup wardrobe.
00:28How does that sound?
00:29It sounds good.
00:30Okay.
00:30The first step is choosing the right lash.
00:33The goal of a faux lash is to make it look real.
00:36So we're going to choose a lash that's going to look more natural on you.
00:39We're choosing something soft and witty.
00:41Once we get our lash off, we want to kind of get rid of the shape that it's taken in
00:47the
00:47packaging.
00:47So what I like to do is take one of my brushes and just wrap it right around the brush.
00:53And what that will do is give it a little malleability so that we can really make it fit to
00:58your eyes.
00:59Once we do that for a few moments, then we're going to go back, measure that right up against
01:04the eye.
01:05This is a pretty big strip.
01:06So what I'm going to need to do is to cut off some of the strip.
01:10When I trim my lash, I then take what was the middle and I bring that to my outer corner.
01:18Once we have our lash to the proper length, I'm just going to cut my other lash so that
01:23we know they are exactly where we want them to be.
01:26Okay.
01:27Now we're going to talk about glue.
01:30Okay.
01:31With any faux lash, you want to use a glue that is safe for every eye.
01:37I like to use Duo Adhesive, it's a surgical adhesive, it's great, it's very gentle but
01:42long lasting and it's easy to remove.
01:45What most professionals would do now is to take that lash and get some glue right there
01:50on the band.
01:52If you don't feel comfortable with that, you can always use a little brush and just apply
01:58glue right along the band.
02:01Now my other little trick is take a little liner brush and I'm just going to line right
02:07along the lash line where we want that lash to stay.
02:11So now that gives you a guide and something to kind of anchor that lash into place.
02:17Does that make sense?
02:18So now we just let our lash dry for a second, we bring it right in and we're just going
02:23glue
02:23against glue and then just press in at the corners of your fingers and there we go.
02:31It looks way more natural than you thought it would.
02:33You've got a beautiful eye and this is a really great way to open it up and really show people
02:38the color and the shape that exists there.
02:40I've got your lash prepared for you and I just want you to paint right along that top of the
02:48band.
02:49You're going to take your same liner brush and just line right along your lash line right
02:55as close to the lash as you can.
02:57Now one trick is that a lot of women look into the mirror and they look down which closes their
03:04lid up where if you look up, you see how now you can see exactly where you need to line.
03:10Now we're going to pick our lash back up and now you're just going to put glue with glue.
03:15Place it down right where your glue guide is and press it right through.
03:21Oh wow.
03:22See the difference?
03:23Yeah.
03:23So putting on fake eyelashes was way less scary than I thought it would be.
03:27I knew it would be.
03:28And glue is totally not gross.
03:32So thank you so much for showing me how to do it.
03:34You're welcome.
03:35And thank you for watching Refinery29.
