At just 17, Chloë Grace Moretz has already played a vigilante in Kick-Ass, a traumatized teen in Carrie, and a vampire in Let Me In. And now, her new movie, If I Stay, based on the beloved YA novel by Gayle Forman, sees Moretz in her very first romantic role.

Incidentally, however, it's her off-screen dating life that's been generating headlines as of late. But, lest you think all the attention has gone to her head, she assures us she's just as grounded as ever. We sat down with Moretz and her costar Jamie Blackley to chat about staying sane in Hollywood, If I Stay and The Fault In Our Stars comparisons, and what never fails to make them cry. Oh, and they spill on the gut-wrenching scenes that are bound to make you tear up when you see their new flick.

00:06Chloe, how do you feel about If I Stay being compared to The Fault in Our Stars?
00:11The Fault in Our Stars centers around a young love story that is also centered around diseases such as cancer.
00:17With our story, it encompasses a lot more than just two people.
00:20A major part of it is the young love, but I think it's also predominantly about the familial love,
00:26and the love for music, and the love of life.
00:29Isn't it amazing how life is one thing and then, in an instant, it becomes something else?
00:34Like, here I am, Mia, the girl who thinks about the cello and Adam and Juilliard, and just like that.
00:43Did watching If I Stay make either of you cry?
00:46Yep.
00:46Stacey Keech, I thought he was absolutely brilliant in that scene. It was kind of heartbreaking.
00:51When, you know, she finds out Mom and Dad are dead, and there's, like, that little flashback of them, like,
00:57kissing in a chair.
00:58And you're like, stop it.
01:00What are some of your other favorite tearjerker movies?
01:03The Notebook.
01:04In Saving Private Ryan, where Giovanni Ribisi, he's away from his mother, and he talks about laying in bed when
01:11he was a kid.
01:12That always gets me.
01:13This is a really dark answer, by the way, is Schindler's List.
01:16I'm not going to do that.
01:17Yeah.
01:18Yeah, that's horrible.
01:19That movie just, like, ruins me.
01:21So there's so many beloved books being turned into movies.
01:24One is a book that you'd like to see be turned into a movie next.
01:28I want to do a classical retelling of Breakfast Symphony's, Truman Capote's book, the real retelling of it, though.
01:36She was a call girl who had a lot of psychological issues, and she was involved in drugs and everything
01:42else,
01:42and I would love to do a real retelling of that in a couple years.
01:46Junior Officers Reading Club, which is written by a guy who was a soldier in Afghanistan, and he created this
01:52reading club amongst the troops,
01:53and then he kind of documents all of his experiences at war. I think that's really cool.
01:59Chloe, how do you remind yourself to stay sane and grounded?
02:02My family does that for me just for the fact that they all kind of beat me up and kind
02:06of are like,
02:06you have to stay grounded more than anything.
02:08I don't really have the chance to allow my head to expand, but I think it's honestly just keeping your
02:14eye on the prize
02:15and the fact that you are blessed to be able to be where you are, staying true to who you
02:20are,
02:20and to always remember that you are doing this because you love acting, not for the BS of everything else,
02:27you know?
02:27How am I supposed to decide this?
02:29I want this to be over!
02:33Life is this big, fat, gigantic mess. That's the beauty of it too, you know?
