00:00What does it mean when your cocktail is fat washed?
00:02This might sound a little crazy, but you can put bacon fat in your whiskey.
00:06It's called fat washing, and it's a technique that bartenders use to add the flavor and
00:09aroma of different fats to a spirit.
00:12You can use just about anything, brown butter, bacon fat, olive oil, coconut oil.
00:15I even tried it with chili oil and tequila.
00:18The alcohol actually pulls out the fat-soluble flavor compounds and infuses it into the spirit.
00:23Once you combine your fat with your spirit, you put it all in the freezer and it'll separate
00:26into two layers.
00:28That way, when it's really, really well chilled, you can easily remove that fat cap and you'll
00:32be left with a delicious infused spirit.
00:34This isn't just some weird internet technique.
00:36This is a real thing that bartenders do, and you should try it at home too.
