00:00I suffer from something a little bit embarrassing.
00:02It's called hyperhidrosis,
00:04also known as excessive sweating.
00:07For a living, I'm an actor and I'm also on-camera host.
00:10And so sometimes under hot lights,
00:12if the weather is really hot,
00:14sweat starts dripping down my head.
00:16The sweat has become unbearable.
00:19There is something like this out there
00:21that can potentially help me sweat less.
00:23So I'm really genuinely excited for it.
00:25I remember bringing up Botox to my friend
00:28and the first thing they said was like, oh, okay.
00:30It was weird to like have to defend it
00:32when it wasn't what they were thinking that it was.
00:34We're about to go see the doctor and get the shots.
00:38I am very excited to get this procedure started.
00:41One of the newest ways to treat hyperhidrosis
00:44or excess sweating is using Botox
00:46by injecting it into the areas
00:47where someone is sweating more than they need to.
00:49We're gonna do a number of tiny little injections of Botox.
00:53It's gonna tell the sweat glands
00:54to stop producing as much sweat.
00:58Now, surgery can have permanent effects,
01:00but it has a significant amount of risk.
01:02So Botox is the most common way we're treating it now.
01:04Most patients see a large amount of sweat reduction
01:07in the area of 80 to 90% of sweat
01:10for six to nine months after injection of Botox
01:12into the troubled areas.
01:14I did not know that was gonna hurt like that.
01:16You are a champ.
01:17Well, you just had 50 injections.
01:18I am a G, okay?
01:20You are a G. You just had 50 injections.
01:22When we're treating someone with hyperhidrosis
01:24of the face and scalp,
01:25I'm very specific in asking where they have symptoms.
01:27For instance, today our patient complained about
01:30excess sweating in the forehead and behind the neck.
01:32So we treated that with the Botox being injected
01:35along the hairline in the front, in the forehead,
01:38and along the scalp in the back.
01:39So after six to nine months,
01:41do you think that I will generally sweat less?
01:44Or do you think it will just be full throttle like I used to?
01:47No, it doesn't turn on and off like a light switch.
01:49I see.
01:49The sweat glands get smaller with time as not being used,
01:53just like any other muscle we have.
01:55I see.
01:55If you don't use it, you lose it.
01:57Mm-hmm.
01:58But they will grow back.
01:59Mm-hmm.
02:00So we do repeat the injections every six to nine months.
02:03So the first 24 hours after we inject Botox for any reason,
02:06we ask people not to go in a sauna, hot tub, or whirlpool.
02:10I ask them not to exercise as well.
02:13These increases in blood pressure can move the product around.
02:16So we try to limit their increases in their body temperature
02:19for 24 hours.
02:20The ones on the neck too.
02:21Done.
02:22You're done.
02:22You're done.
02:23That's it.
02:24That's it.
02:24You graduated the program.
02:25Yeah.
02:26I just got units all done to around here on my head
02:30and the back of my neck over here.
02:32I am just like, yes, sweat, bring it on, OK?
02:36I want to see how good this is going to be working.
02:38I'm going to be vlogging in the next few days
02:40and just keeping you guys updated.
02:41So watch me sweat less.
02:44Good morning, everybody.
02:45It is the day after the procedure.
02:47And as you can see, I really don't see anything.
02:51You know, there's no kind of like marks that, you know,
02:53like an injection was there or anything like that.
02:55I felt zero pain.
02:57After the procedure was over, I felt nothing.
02:59Last night, I slept fine.
03:00It's really not that intrusive, which I really like.
03:03Like, I was a little hot on the train yesterday
03:06and I was sweating a little bit.
03:08But again, it takes seven to 10 days,
03:10so I don't know if it's working yet.
03:12But I did feel like I wasn't sweating as much,
03:14but that might be in my head, but I'm not sure.
03:15But yeah, all in all, today, I feel good.
03:17So it's officially, what, 10 days after the procedure.
03:21And I went to the club over the weekend.
03:22And I don't go to clubs often, but I did go this weekend.
03:25And I was sweating, but I wasn't sweating as much
03:27as I was before.
03:30I actually was super embarrassed to go clubbing for a while
03:32because like, it's so hot in a club.
03:34Everyone's pushing into you and I'm always sweating.
03:36And I'm just like, I'm just not gonna go
03:37because nobody wants to feel my sweat on them.
03:40But like going this time and not sweating as much
03:42was honestly like, blessed.
03:57You know, so I was at the gym and I was working out
03:59and I was sweating a lot.
04:00But I always sweat a lot at the gym
04:01because I work out so hard.
04:03But anyways, so I don't know how to compare it
04:05to like regular life because I do feel like at the gym,
04:07I sweat much more.
04:09But in regular life, it is definitely much better.
04:11I'm wearing like a pretty heavy, you know, winter jacket.
04:14It's cold outside and it's raining.
04:15And I was so hot when I got to my meeting.
04:17But as you can see, definitely not sweating a lot around here.
04:22Like usually, I would just be like dripping,
04:24like the kind of hot I was.
04:26It was like I was just wearing too much clothing.
04:28This thing doesn't breathe.
04:29And usually I'd be just a dripping sweat and I wasn't.
04:33And honestly, so grateful, so grateful.
04:36Hey everybody, it's Ellie here.
04:37And it's been about two weeks since I've gotten my injections
04:40from Dr. Einstein.
04:41And I think overall, for anybody who's suffering
04:44from extreme sweating, hyperhidrosis like me,
04:48it's not the solution to the problem.
04:50Just getting injections around your head
04:52is not going to stop the sweating.
04:53But I think it definitely will help you sweat less.
04:56And it's definitely helped me.
04:57I don't know if it like psychologically, whatever.
05:00But every time I do get hot, I'm like,
05:01I'm not going to sweat as I usually do
05:03because I have injections and it just makes me feel better.
05:05We all are human. We all have our things.
05:08So don't be embarrassed about it.
05:10If you out there and you have hyperhidrosis,
05:12whether it's in your pits, your arms, your feet,
05:14your head, back, butt, whatever,
05:17know that you're not alone.
05:18Thank you so much for being on this journey with me.
05:20Shout out to Refinery29.
05:21And until next time, I will see you guys later.
05:24Bye.
