00:05Hey guys, my name is Sojourner and I have
00:09trypophobia. Do not let my smile fool you
00:12because I'm legitimately freaking out on
00:13the inside. Trypophobia is defined as the
00:16irrational fear and or anxiety of
00:19irregular patterns or small clusters of
00:22holes and bumps. I didn't always know
00:25that I had trypophobia. It wasn't until I
00:27was in college. I'm scrolling on my
00:29newsfeed. I find a quiz that says, do you
00:31suffer from trypophobia? I had never heard
00:33of it before, but my interest exceeded
00:35itself. So I clicked the quiz. The image
00:38that I saw just started freaking me out. I
00:40started itching. The hairs on my arms
00:43started to stand up and I'm freaking out.
00:45I'm freaking out. So after I took the quiz,
00:47I was pretty shocked at how I reacted to
00:50those images. I started to sit back and
00:53think, okay, well what happened in my life
00:55that kind of brought this fear or anxiety
00:58on? I used to frequent my parents' bedroom a lot
01:00to watch TV, catch up on all the music
01:02videos that were hot. That was my hangout
01:04spot. One day, I'm minding my business. I
01:06hear this buzzing. Out the corner of my eye, I
01:09see a beehive that kind of infiltrated the
01:14high ceiling corner of my parents' bedroom. It
01:17was those doggone holes. You had no idea
01:20what's actually on the inside of them. So it was
01:22just dark and ugly and deep and just holy and
01:27there were so many of them. There were so
01:28many. I couldn't count and I didn't want to
01:30count. So you got the beehive and you got
01:32this quiz. Put it together and boom. Sojourner
01:35has trypophobia. I don't know what I've signed
01:38up for. But I'm ready. Kinda? Sorta? Not really?
01:43No! I don't like that! No! Not that! Not that!
01:46Okay, this is pretty. This is pretty. Sequence glitter.
01:51That's that I don't like! No! Okay. Gravel. I can do
01:58gravel. This one has hairs on it. It's staring at me. What is
02:06that? These are giving me anxiety right now. Like
02:13some intense. Even just from the back. I can.
02:21So when you're confronting your fears, your
02:23first reaction might be to freak out. Which
02:26is understandable. Sorry. I'm so scared.
02:33Oh! Okay. Can I put it down on the table? Okay.
02:42No! I don't like that! No! Just try to breathe. Try to
02:46talk yourself through it. What the is a drying lotus
02:49pod? Some you find in nature. That's why I don't
02:52with nature. So the challenge is now over. Looking at those
02:57objects terrified me. Absolutely terrified. I am highly
03:01visual. I will say I was not as scared as some of the images as I was when I originally
03:05started. So I definitely see the benefits in exposure therapy. But again, if you find
03:10that your fear is debilitating or it's causing serious effects in your day-to-day life, there
03:15is help that can be sought out for it. Whether it's a therapist or a doctor. The key is to
03:20try and find the source of your fear and understand why you feel the way that you feel. Thank you
03:25so
03:25much for watching me face my fear. It was a scary sight. But we did it! Sojourner out.
