In the wake of the worldwide outrage at Trump's indifference to the climate catastrophes already ravaging the planet, individuals are banning together to resist Trump's stance on climate change. Author and environmentalist Bill McKibben has been agitating against the coal, oil, and gas industries since well before the current White House turned away from climate scientists' grave predictions. McKibben isn't giving up on the fight to protect our planet from looming environmental cataclysm — though with a Republican-controlled Congress, he has his work cut out.

00:00Donald thinks that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese.
00:04I think it's real.
00:05I did not.
00:06Science is real.
00:07I do not say that.
00:07I do not say that.
00:09Do you ever call climate change a hoax?
00:13Well, all of this with the global warming and a lot of it's a hoax.
00:18It's a hoax.
00:18I mean, it's a money-making industry, okay?
00:20It's a hoax.
00:30So, now that we have a president who thinks that global warming is a Chinese hoax,
00:35just tell me what is the silver lining?
00:38You missed it.
00:38You missed it.
00:39The silver lining, of course, is that people are fighting back.
00:43Yes.
00:43Yes.
01:01When I'm home, I try to spend a lot of time out in the woods.
01:10It's a reminder of what a beautiful world this still is.
01:17It's pretty mind-blowing to think about the way that we've changed the very climate of the planet.
01:272014 was the hottest year we ever measured on the planet, until 2015 obliterated that record,
01:33until 2016 obliterated that record.
01:38If we don't win the fight on climate change in the next few years, we'll never win it,
01:43because the systems will just spiral out of control.
01:51It's depressing to watch 30 or 40 years of environmental understanding and work and care
02:00be tossed into the blender in the course of a few weeks.
02:05I've lived through a number of presidents, and I know that there's nothing normal about the situation we're in now.
02:15We suddenly have people in charge of things who are insisting that up is down and physics doesn't work.
02:23It's a kind of siege of unreason and greed.
02:27People are riled up, and rightly so.
02:30We want a leader, not a creepy tweeter!
02:40For the moment, we're going to lose every decision and every congressional vote that there is.
02:44They hold the levers of power. We've got to make sure that they don't hold them forever.
02:49How do we change the agenda in all these roles?
02:53Everybody goes home today all over the country and does all that they can.
03:01It's kind of easy sometimes to lose heart and think it's all too big and I'm too small.
03:07We are too small for any of us as individuals to make a big difference.
03:13Probably the most important thing an individual can do right now is not be so much an individual.
03:18Come together with other people in order to build something large enough to have a real chance of taking these
03:24guys on.
03:29We don't know how the battle's going to end.
03:31And so, I spend very little time worrying about how it all comes out in the end.
03:36And just wake up in the morning wondering how much trouble I can cause the fossil fuel industry in the
03:43course of the day.
03:44That seems enough.
03:45That's right!
03:47We look right back!
03:48We look right back!
03:49We look right back!
