00:00Donald Trump revoked the legal basis for U.S. climate regulation, ending vehicle emission
00:06standards on Thursday. The Obama-era endangerment finding has long supported limits on planet
00:13warming pollution from cars, power plants and other sources. The finding says carbon
00:18dioxide and other greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels endanger public health and welfare.
00:25The Trump administration says the finding hurts industry and the economy.
00:30So perhaps no industry has benefited more from our historic deregulation campaign than
00:35the U.S. auto industry. We cancelled the EPA's absurd, just totally absurd tailpipe emission
00:44standards which was a disaster for automobile manufacturing.
00:49The rule was adopted after a 2007 Supreme Court decision that said greenhouse gases are air
00:55pollutants under the Clean Air Act. Climate scientists warn that
00:59overturning the endangerment finding undermines decades of scientific progress and damages
01:06the credibility of U.S. institutions tasked with protecting the environment.
01:11They also note that rising global temperatures are driving more extreme heat, wildfires, drought
01:17and catastrophic flooding and causing billions of dollars in damage.
