00:04Hey guys, it's Megan from Refinery29, and I'm here in the Beauty Test Lab today trying out
00:08Pop Beauty's Peak Performance Mascara. So this is a little different from what you may be used to.
00:14Most mascaras have a wand applicator. This is actually a comb. So what this does is the mascara
00:22comes out through the comb and you then brush it onto your lashes. And it's supposed to volumize,
00:27lengthen, and also give a shiny kind of lacquered effect to the lashes. You can wear it alone or you
00:33can wear it on top of your regular mascara to add kind of as a top coat. So I don't
00:39have any mascara
00:39on right now and I'm going to give it a go on bare lashes. So let's give it a try.
00:44So the first
00:44thing you do is you twist the bottom. You can see it's come up through here. And what I'm going
00:52to do
00:52is I'm going to take it and I'm going to comb it into my lashes. And this is the first
00:57time I've
00:57tried anything like this before. So we'll see how it goes. So the instructions say to
01:03hit the root of your lash and wiggle upwards. So I'm going right here on the outside and I'm just
01:09wiggling it in. And you can see it's starting to apply. This is a little odd because I'm used to
01:19using a wand. But I do notice this gives me a little bit more precision. But what I'm noticing
01:25is it's really grabbing each lash and it's definitely separating. You just have to be careful when
01:30you're pushing it that you don't push it up against your eye because I'm getting some marks
01:35against my eyelid. A good way to get rid of that is to put your hand behind your eyelashes
01:40and that way it can press up against it and you don't get those weird little marks.
01:52I'm trying to get in there and wiggle so I get that fullness at the lash line. So I'm actually
02:00pleasantly surprised by this mascara. I went into it a little biased thinking I was going
02:05to hate it because it looks a little contrived, it looks a little gimmicky, and it looks complicated.
02:10But it's really really easy and the design is genius. Unlike a traditional mascara wand
02:15which you can pull out and usually has way too much product on it, I actually always end
02:19up wiping off excess product. This with one click you get the perfect amount and you can
02:23really control how much formula you get on there. So if you can do a little bit and get
02:29a really nice light daytime look or you can keep combing and building and get something a little
02:33sexy or a little more dramatic like I've done here. And I also like the comb because it really
02:38does get every last lash. Even these little ones right here in the inner corner that are
02:42always difficult to get were completely easy to do with this. I'm really liking the formula
02:48that patent leather black shiny effect is really neat, different, it's cool and it creates a
02:53cool focal point of the eye. So I'm going to have to go ahead and say I give this a
02:57pass.
02:58It is $20 which is a little bit expensive but it's not completely out of range of what other
03:03mascaras are on the market right now. And I just think overall it's a really innovative design and it does
03:08what it says. So thumbs up in my book.
