00:02First speakers are groundbreaking artists themselves and they really helped shape the
00:09sound of an era. They broke barriers for women in rock. They appeared on the cover of Rolling
00:15Stone in just bath towels and they know firsthand how to make great music. So please welcome Jane
00:23Weedland, Charlotte Caffey and Gina Schock from the Go-Go's here to honor their fellow trailblazers
00:31and celebrate this well-deserved recognition for the B-52s.
00:46I said everybody get out of the way.
00:51We only have a very short period of time to talk and so I want to say I didn't write
00:55anything down because what meant the most to me and something I'll never forget as long
01:00as I live, I was in Baltimore where I grew up and I was listening to Rock Lobster over
01:05and over and over, learning the drum beat, learning all the lyrics. And little did I
01:11know that a band that I looked up to and loved I would be meeting in two years and hanging
01:20out with people that I adored and we're still friends and I'm so happy and so proud of you
01:25guys. I'm sorry.
01:33Okay, I'm starting the speech here. We all put our ideas together. This is from all of us. If rock
01:41and
01:41roll was a family, the B-52s would be the Go-Go's favorite cousins.
01:49Oh, the B-52s brought fun back. Their kooky combination of B-movie themes, thrift store
01:58style, quirky sounds, kaleidoscopes of color, and irresistible dance beats liberated us all.
02:06They allowed us to be different, to be unique, and to be ourselves. When these five oddballs
02:15from Athens appeared on the scene, suddenly it became okay to be a weirdo. Or better yet,
02:21a queer-to.
02:26How do we love you? Let me count the ways. Ricky's four string guitars. Kate and Cindy's towering
02:37beehive hairdos and astonishing harmonies. Fred's sardonically delivered lines. And Keith's
02:49musical genius. But wait a minute, what about no bass player? What? It was all wonderfully
02:58off-kilter and just the fabulosity that the universe needed. But wait, there's even more.
03:06The Bs have been crusaders for queer rights, animals, and the planet for as long as we've
03:12known them. The B-52s are a national treasure, and as their fans and their friends, we could not
03:22be happier to welcome them into the Hollywood Walk of Fame family. We love you so much.
03:30Okay. Long live the B-52s. Thank you. Long live. Thank you for making the world a better,
03:36wackier place. One, two, three. Oh! One, two, three! One, two, three! No! She's the drummer.
03:45Okay. One, two, three. Okay. Long live the B-52s. Oh, shit. One, two, three! Long live the B-52s!
04:17I love those girls. I was just with them in Mexico last week. Look at that. Great to see
04:25you again.
