00:05Cabaret was a very interesting choice to make. I was living in London at the time and word
00:13got around on the grapevine, as it does, that they were going to make a film version of
00:19the stage musical, Cabaret. Moreover, they were looking for a Michael York type to play
00:24the Christopher Isherwood part. So I remember calling my agent and saying, do you think
00:28I could possibly pass as a Michael York type? And I was assured that it was within the realms
00:36of possibility. It was terrific to have the chance to work with Liza Minnelli. There were
00:42great expectations because of who she was, Judy Garland's daughter. I had spent a lot of
00:48time in the Cabaret, just watching her perform. And it was quite thrilling.
01:07Her ability to stay in character was phenomenal. There's a scene where I invite her to tea.
01:15I'm a teacher. And I'm teaching this very rich young lady, Natalia Landauer. And we're all,
01:20everyone's very impressed. And she insists on coming for tea with her green fingernails.
01:27And there's a shot where I pass off some cakes. And just by accident, they all came flying off
01:33into her lap. But her reaction is so wonderful. But of course, it's in the movie.
01:42Thank you so much. You're welcome.
