00:00If you were waiting for Caroline and Lucian to return with even more manipulation, betrayal, and dangerous games,
00:06I have some heartbreaking news for you, Cruel Intentions.
00:09Season 2 is not coming because Prime Video has officially canceled the show.
00:13Yes, babe, it's true.
00:15The modern Prime Video adaptation of Cruel Intentions premiered on the 21st of November 2024,
00:20but Amazon decided not to renew it for a second season.
00:23The cancellation was confirmed in March 2025, just under four months after the first season arrived on the platform.
00:31Let's start with a quick Season 1 recap.
00:33The series brought the iconic 1,999 movie into a modern college setting at Manchester College near Washington, D.C.
00:41Carolyn Mertul, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, and her stepbrother Lucian Belmont, played by Zach Burgess,
00:48used charm, lies, and manipulation to protect their status in Greek life.
00:54Their biggest target was Annie Grover, the daughter of the U.S. Vice President, played by Savannah Lee Smith.
00:59Season 1 ended with major drama.
01:02Caroline and Lucian's relationship completely fell apart,
01:05while Annie finally began to realize that she had been manipulated from the beginning.
01:09There were also unanswered questions, including the mysterious file added to Caroline's shared drive that left Lucian smiling.
01:16Fans expected Season 2 to reveal the consequences of all these secrets.
01:21Before the cancellation, the show's creators, Phoebe Fisher and Sarah Goodman, had already imagined the story continuing.
01:27They wanted to follow the characters slowly through their college years and eventually toward graduation.
01:33Sadly, those plans will now remain unfinished because Prime Video chose to end the series after only eight episodes.
01:40So, why was it cancelled?
01:42Amazon did not give an official reason, but reports suggested that the show struggled to find a large audience.
01:48Cruel Intentions did not enter Nielsen's top ten streaming charts, and it also received mixed reviews from critics.
01:54In the crowded world of streaming, strong viewership often decides whether a series survives.
01:59Now, let's talk about what Season 2 could have looked like.
02:03If it had returned, we would likely have seen Caroline and Lucian dealing with the fallout of their broken trust.
02:09Annie's discovery about Professor Chadwick could have created even more chaos, especially if Cece learned the truth.
02:15Their sorority, friendships, and reputations were all hanging by a thread.
02:19A second season also could have explored new romantic rivalries, deeper manipulation, and the consequences of Caroline's ruthless ambition.
02:27The finale clearly left space for more story, which makes the cancellation even more disappointing for fans.
02:33As for a release date, there is none, and there will not be one.
02:37Since the show was cancelled, Cruel Intentions Season 2 will not premiere on Prime Video.
02:43Season 1 remains available for streaming, so if you have not watched it yet, you can still experience the full
02:48drama from beginning to end.
02:50Honestly, it hurts because the show had style, tension, and characters you love to hate.
02:55Caroline was icy and calculating, Lucian was dangerously charming, and Annie's journey gave the story emotional weight.
03:03Together, they created a modern college version of a classic revenge drama.
